It's a long ass week with no basketball. At least the USM fans can be excited about baseball.
True . Saturday can't come soon enough.

RE: Someone gave USM a vote in the USA Today basketball poll this week.
Back to the very first post. Good for whoever gave them a vote even if it was Doc. They might be playing the best basketball in the conference right now. They’re winning games and in some they’re flat out beating the dogshittt out of teams. I still don’t know how we beat them down there going off what they’ve done since.
Funny story in re Doc voting for self if he did. I think it was Willie Taggart’s second year and at the preseason football get together he voted Western #1. Admitted it proudly. There was much guffawing and hee-hawing going on. I just shook my head chalking it up to Willie T being Willie T. We were 2-10 the year before I believe.
Willie took 2nd place in the Sun Belt that year and was an overturned first down by Arky State from going undefeated.

Yeah I can respect the vote based on "what have you done for be lately" and the current winning streak. Any exposure is good!
Looks like my hot alien take really backfired though

that's my take...I couldn't care less if it was or was not Doc...
this team may not finish the tourney, but right now, Doc has 'em playing lights fk'n out...
this isn't the perimeter toss the ball around taking lazy shots....we finally have the tools to pick-n-roll, penetrate, or pop it back to the wing....
griff and draine have changed how the rest move the ball....
I know this fan is having fun watching how this year has evolved....

Someone gave USM a vote in the USA Today basketball poll this week.
Rice is 3-0 all time vs Alabama, best record against Alabama of anyone in the universe.
Nothing else in this thread matters.
(Although the Spanish 7 day Checkmate was pretty bad ass)

WKU might be our biggest mismatch in the conference. I would go: WKU (size), ODU (length at the perimeter spots), and La Tech (defensive scheme).

yep....
Bassey is going to wear our arse out if their coach has a clue...
if he can put 3 quick fouls on Rowe, it'll be ballgame....the only saving grace is he's learning how TTTo finally keep his hands to himself....we have to have his minutes...
I think we can hang with the other two...

Geez. They were excited because they had a good start that they haven't had in a while and went a little over board with that. Honestly who wouldn't be so let it go dude. Don't need to rub it in.

No one admitted defeat...I don't fight endlessly with people who say the Wall is being built or with people who deny global warming...it isn't worth the amount of energy it takes to type a response.
Now, you're right, I do see where some folks went to the sweet 16, and some folks won conference championships...congratulations...Still don't see VERIFIED wins over TOP 25 teams...but you are also right I did not figure in Ballet, Horse Hockey or badmitten.
La Tech Lady Bulldogs did have a great run in the NAIAW, but not sure how you calculate Top 25 wins.
Sometimes the truth hurts

You do understand the argument, right? If he had said USM has beaten more ranked opponents in football I would have just ridiculed him for bringing up football in a basketball thread.
More top 25 wins among ALL sports (later walked back to major sports) than ALL of the other 13 schools COMBINED.
Here's your football wins against ranked opponents for the years 1989,1990, 1996-2018 (All that were listed on Wikipedia) feel free to fact check.
1989 - FSU #6
1990 - Auburn #15
1990 - Alabama #13
1999 - ECU #16
2000 - TCU #16
2000 - Alabama #15
2003 - TCU #10
2010 - UCF #23
2011 - Houston #7
9 wins in 15 years. A very impressive history, no one denies that.
Sure you're good at baseball but that's not going to help because if you bring baseball into it there's no doubt Rice, FAU, LT and a few others would easily be able to outnumber you're good wins in that sport.
Not talking "good wins', talking top 25 wins...
Better be glad you started counting football victories in 1989, USM had boucoup more victories over Top 25 teams before then.
Now, I agree Rice baseball could be a fly in USM's ointment....not sure how you gauge how many top 25 wins they had...but you also mentioned La Tech and FAU baseball, you gotta be kiddin', right?
You also say USM doesn't have that great a sports history, while admitting football was impressive and baseball has held it's own....so we're sorry we are sh!tty at Horse Hockey. Actually, just as a FEW programs on here, USM basketball has had it's moments, but that tepid history is 10X better than most programs currently in C-USA.
In the past few years, USM has had 2 NFL HOF'ers, a MLB All-Star and a multiple gold medal winner at the Olympics....butI must admit, no success in Horse Hockey.

1985 women's basketball...a pyrrhic victory at best..
Speakin' of women's sports, USM has boucoup top 25 wins in Women's softball...
You made the rules. So for those keeping score at home:
Last 20 years of USM football: 9
Current year FB & MBB and a single tournament for the rest of us: 10
