And enjoy your avatar. In 9 months it’s gonna be useless.

I do find it humorous. GS has gone from consistently winning championships to celebrating when they finally beat their rival.

I mean..you were 1 of 3 key wins for a first year coach.. App...State.. Bowl. So don't oversell yourself here.

I expect a streak to form this Fall in Boone...04-rock

Yes, the very beginning of another streak.

What I find humorous is that everyone (Appy included) is one bad hire away from doing the exact same thing we did. We get it. It was an atrocious hire of epic proportions and cost us dearly. But it's not like we are dead and buried. We'll be back on our perch soon enough.

I'm actually looking at 15-20 years ago with Paul Johnson and Mike Sewak when speaking of consistently winning championships.

But yea, everyone does have a bad hire or two.

Looks like another coach has left before he got his suitcase unpacked. DL coach Buddy Wyatt has resigned to take an unspecified "opportunity".

Lost another assistant coach to either a P5 (Kansas St this time) or NFL. Money talks and we don’t have the budget to pay assistants upper G5 money.

I need to win the lottery. Guess I should play first.

Garrett Riley is the brother of OU head coach Lincoln Riley. Guys are nearly twins. They may actually be twins. I'm not sure.

Lincoln is 6 years older.

Adding Lance Ware as Senior Assistant to the HC should make some of the grumbling stop.

Definitely a step in the right direction. This entire filling out the staff thing has been ridiculous.

It sucked, but I take some solace that Drink got guys that were P5 and NFL assistants on our G5 budget. Sucks it didn't work out, but I think he can attract coaching and player talent here.

Not to be negative, as it seems my posts on this subject are perceived, none of those P5 coaches had a job at the time. It's abundantly clear some simply used us as a life boat until something better came along. I hope Drinkwitz has learned a valuable lesson.

Thats a fair point.

But I mean who is blaming these guys for taking jobs that paid at minimum 3X to what we were paying? Its not like these guys are going to other G5 programs. Give me ambitious coaches who take better paying opportunities over complacent ones that will stagnate the program.

I'm not blaming those guys for taking the money. My point is that Drinkwitz needs to realize he's rolling the dice making these types of hires. Their background is nothing but chasing the dollars. It maybe attention grabbing bringing these guys in, but common sense tells you they won't be around long. For a program that has been the epitome of stability, even with assistants, it's a troubling trend.

AppManDG you never know which big name you hire falls in love with Boone and decides to stick around. I would NEVER want my coach or administration to pass on a top candidate because they're "too good" or "might leave".

RE: Report: App State to hire Eliah Drinkwitz
We had a guy that played at App for 4 years and was an assistant at App for over 10 years combined. We hired that guy as our head coach. After 5 years, he chased the money. Not sure you can avoid money-chasers, even in your own family. Hiring a guy solely on his connections and not his credentials is short-sighted. Satt had both and still left. Filling a staff full of guys only with connections to the program is going to limit your pool of candidates and minimize your potential for success, and if successful, there is no guarantee that they stick around, either. Drink has done a great job of mixing those in the family with outside hires. If Drink and current staff are successful, I anticipate they will mostly all be gone within 4 years. Perhaps one of the current staff will be ready to take the reigns at that time.

I always love the fans who act as if a coach doesn't have some kind of connection to the school, they shouldn't be looked at. I remember after Summers got hired, so many fans were wanting us to hire former players, with little to no experience in coaching to be the next OC. I even got banned from the Ga Southern Football facebook fan page because I said being a former football player doesn't automatically make you qualiified to be a Division I coordinator. It's silly.

I suppose it's a possibility, but I've been around this program since the late 70's and I haven't seen it happen yet. These guys have been 1 or 2 years and done. However, look at the young unknown guys we've brought in and where the majority are now. Personally I have no desire to see App get on board the coaching carosel.

What if Scott really didn't want to leave at this time, but circumstances pushed him that way? What if Drink had the opportunity (and actually wanted to) keep Ivey, but was told no. BTW, where did I say we should only bring in assistants with ties to the program?
