What could have been: Imagine if Santa hadn't been run off the roster and was still here to team up with a real offensive-minded OC.

Yea well, Santa made a mistake or 2, can't have that! The world would end.

I shouldn't do this but, f*ck it.
Did Santa graduate? Any chance he'd be willing to come back home to NIU as a grad transfer and right some wrongs of the PAST regime?

Nothing personal against Santa, but does anyone on here really think he was all that and a bag of chips? He definitely had a big arm and had his moments, but he was really terrible at times, too. The big pass against Nebraska? It was the only time he moved the ball all game! The Kent State debacle. The pick at the end of the San Diego St. game. C'mon. Get over Santa already.

'05--you were quicker on the draw than I was with your "c'mon"! Nicely done. Tired of hearing about Santa for sure.

That made him 1-for-1, pretty good percentage.
It was the ONLY time he was allowed to attempt to move the ball all game, because, P.USSY.
I'm glad to "move on" from the sacless oaf who was heading the program.
As to there still being a MACC trophy in the case without Santa, I say imagine what could have been there IN ADDITION to it if a certain past head coach had even one testicle.

The Kent State debacle was a few plays in the first quarter. Childers had that kind of game for most of 2 years.

Santa pretty much single handedly lost the San Diego State game with picks and followed it up with a pick on his first pass against Kent State. The Santa’s are a great family, but he earned his benching.

Are we talking "earning a benching" now?
Because...bounce passes (among other miscues).
And really, you can't talk "earning a benching" (from the previous staff) without talking mulish and pusillanimous "leadership" can we?

Hardly. If Childers played in that game they would have scored 7-10 points. They were only in that game because of Santa. No way Childers hits ANY of those deep passes that NIU scored on.

He kept the Kent State game alive with his feet. Wasn't pretty, but it won us the game. Not sure we would have won if Carey didn't make the switch. To that end, not 100% clear if we would have lost the SDSU game with Childers in the game...a likely L but not a guaranteed L IMO.

Maybe, but they had entire halves of games where the offense did nothing with Childers. So I wouldn't throw Santa under the bus for a couple of not very good drives.

SDSU has 263 yards in that game. To say they were only in it because of Santa is insane lol. SDSU only had 34 points because Santa couldn’t stop handing the ball to them and SDSU returned a kick for a TD. Why is this even a discussion? Carey is gone, Santa is gone. Find something better to talk about

Santa threw for 128 yards against Nebraska, turned it over 4 times (including a pick 6) against SDSU, and then threw a pick on his first drive against Kent.
We’re still talking about him, why?

Had Carey stuck with Santa we would be having the same conversation, "If only Carey would have switched to Childers..."
This is old, played out and now irrelevant..
