Not sure if we've mentioned this guy anywhere yet or not but Reed Myers is a 6-1 point guard out of a small private school in Arizona who has committed to Rice. He's a senior but I'm not sure if he will be on scholarship or not. My guess is he will be a walk-on (for now).
Looks like he'll be a walk-on but one more in the vein of Miles Lester than a traditional WO. Some article from a couple years ago has him with a bit of interest from some Ivies and Patriot schools.

He missed all of last year after surgery and just came back for the club circuit this year it looks like.
“While Myers might still be working out some of the kinks, he is still playing at an extremely high level. He shot the ball well, but more importantly, he got his teammates involved. Myers is a good passer with really good court vision. He has skilled teammates who are capable of making plays, which helps. With that said, he utilizes those assets extremely well. He hits ahead and understands where his teammates need to be in order to be successful.“

Signee Quincy Olivari one of 800+ nominated for the McDonald’s All American game. Last recruit I remember with that distinction was Chad Lott.

28 points for Olivari in their playoff win (with some video).

I would venture a guess that he wants to be close to his brother at Northwestern, which is why visits to Illinois State, Milwaukee, Loyola (CHI) make sense. Doesn't seem a likely get.
As a reminder, Rice still has 1 open scholarship heading into 2019-20 (assuming no transfers).
Any update on 2019 guys that were offered at some point (or that Rice is looking at)? I checked in on the names below. None of them have committed yet, but none seem to have any recent Rice-related news either.
Verbal Commits shows offers to the following:
PT Trae Broadnax, 6'3" from Florida
SG Cameron Cohn, 6'4" from Houston (nothing on Twitter connecting him to Rice since May 2017)
SG Anderson Kopp, 6'5% from Utah
PF David Skogman, 6'10" from Wisconsin, took official visit to Rice in Aug/Sept 2018
247Sports says that Rice's only outstanding offer is to Skogman.

I'd be very surprised if our last addition wasn't a transfer. No inside information, just seems that the staff has moved onto the 2020 highschoolers. Doesn't mean they won't see somebody really late that they like, but I'm hoping for a grad transfer.

I agree. It's also worth noting that technically we may not have any scholarships if Addison Owen remains on scholarship (I don't know if his deal was a 1-year deal or if he is on scholarship next year too).

You know what, you're right, we might actually not have a scholarship open. I keep forgetting that Addison is on a scholarship and that VC hasn't updated. Entirely possible that the reason the staff has moved onto 2020 is because we're actually fully done with 2019. Never even crossed my mind.

I will be very, very surprised if we don’t have at least one player transfer.
Whether that’s a guy like Tim Harrison grad transferring for playing time, a freshmen (ideally Peterson) transferring, or one of the other guys, you almost have to bake it in.

I know you meant if you *had* to pick one freshman, but let's not throw any bad vibes out there about transferring. Peterson has a very high ceiling even if we haven't quite seen it yet. The minute he starts hitting his outside shots consistently, which he will, teams will have to play him more aggressively which will allow him to use his athleticism (which is limited right now) to beat guys off the dribble. He's already one of our smartest passers and a capable defender. I'd love to keep everybody (I know...unrealistic) and see what it's like to watch guys develop over 3-4 years.

Yeah I don’t mean to pick any one guy out and I do think Peterson can be a good four-year player but you just don’t see many teams, even the good ones, keep their entire freshmen class. And if any transfer, I feel like it’d be Peterson. By all means though, I hope he sticks around.

I agree. Peterson was an outstanding shooter in high school and has good size. I much prefer that he stay at Rice and his shot will eventually return. If not, he will have a great degree. I prefer zero guys transfer, as I am tired of that!

Just a personal note, but the athletic department had a "career night" on Monday. I spoke with the freshmen and Josh P...all are really, really impressive when you speak with them individually.
They seem to be a great fit for Rice and I am optimistic that they will be here next year and for the next couple of years. If they all stay, I like the way our future looks. I spoke primarily with Trey, Chris and QMB and they definitely appear to be committed to Rice.

Good to hear. Coaching at Penn and Rice I think Pera realizes the type of student-athlete we need to target. Last year was a thrown together class. This year’s freshmen were his first real recruiting class and seem to fit Rice very well.

I saw Seth Gearhart a few weeks ago and he told me he loved playing for Coach Pera.
