Now that the other season is over, and wow, did it end with a wimper, one week until kickoff of for the AAF.

Hopefully people are wanting a better ending to the football season then what just happened, and interested to see how this league works out.

In the pregame show, the AAF is pushing very hard to be seen as the developmental league for the NFL, which is a good thing.

I’m in Phoenix for work, so I’ve got the San Antonio-San Diego game on. Already more offense and better plays then the Super Bowl last week.

RE: AAF kicks off in less then 2 weeks
After watching game one I have some reviews, as if anyone is really interested in what I think.

First, there are no kickoffs, and I didn’t miss them at all.

The defenses were ahead of the offenses, as to be expected in the beginning. That doesn’t mean there were not some really good plays on offense, just the defense seemed to be a step ahead. That should get better as these teams spend more time together and the offenses get in sync with each other.

The coverage was very good in talking about the players, their college, and NFL experience.

A lot less commercials, I didn’t miss them either.

In the end, I watched football, it looked like football, it felt like football, there were no gimmicks, no ridiculousness, just good ole American football.

I look forward to seeing the Birmingham team play tomorrow.

I was at the San Antonio game, had a great time. Atmosphere in the Alamodome was great . . . the crowd was really into it, and the product on the field will only get better with time. Gotta remember that some of these guys haven’t played in an actual game in a year or more. Don’t know how it looked on TV, but it was a blast in person.

Bad football. Maybe it will improve, but doubtful with the lack of money.

Like it was said before, the product should improve over the first few weeks. A lot of these guys have been on practice squads for a couple years and haven’t seen live football in that time.

I only saw Atlanta and Orlando.

Having watched the first week of USFL, WLAF, and XFL, it was damn good football in comparison to what they looked like their opening week and by year three USFL had some squads that could hang with a good part of the NFL.

Let's talk salaries.

75% of the guys in the G League earn roughly half what AAF is paying. They are making 5x what Triple A baseball player makes. The AHL the top minor league in hockey (and only unionized minor league) the base salary is lower but the average salary is about $20,000 higher. The AAF salary is $17,000 more than the minimum in Major League Soccer.

The CFL minimum is $28,000 less than AAF and CFL average is $10,000 more but the AAF offers no immigration hassles and the season wraps up right when NFL teams are signing UDFA's for the upcoming season. While CFL regular season ends first weekend in November.

NFL practice squad will be a minimum of $8000 per week next year. That's nearly double AAF salary IF you make it all 17 weeks and a lot of guys don't. Get hurt and can't go in practice for a couple weeks you are of no use to the team.

CBS did an excellent job of making this look like professional football.

Was MUCH better than what I expected

I agree... I was expecting a degree of cringe but it all seemed to be well executed.

I enjoyed hearing the Replay Official talk through the review.

I liked the mic'd coaches and players, too.... That could end up being funny.
