I believe the following grad transfer possibilities are still out there:

Stanford FB
Texas RB
Ouchita Baptist OL
Columbia DL

Isaac Klarkowski DL 6-2 275 Green Bay, WI (Southwest)

I just like this guy's football-sounding name and hometown (while still having a "Southwest" connection to boot!) Classic! Nice to have him aboard, and love this nugget from his short bio also:

Do we need another graduate transfer OL I wonder? We already have 2 coming in. We certainly could use the others. I would think the Texas running back (or backs) would be the biggest splash names.

Think a couple HS kids might be on the board still too.

RE: [split] Mike Bloomgren's 2nd Rice recruiting class
Coach Bloomgren seems to have a National recruiting plan; any opportunity to take that international? UVA scored three ACC quality European players this year - https://www.google.co.uk/amp/s/jerryratc...nees/amp/. Seems like Rice academics would be a natural draw, as with Bailiffs Canada success. See 15:40 mark and 27 min mark here for discussion of the European players: https://247sports.com/college/virginia/A...128847749/ - also some interesting commentary on the transfer portal and grad transfers.

It sounds to me like it has been a good recruiting class and that there is the possibility of a few more trickling in (see the recent stories on the Roost).

Justin Gooseberry commits. Safe to say our OL will have a new look with the three grad transfers.

Wow, I'm surprised but all 3 of the guys coming in are veteran starters with tons of accolades at the high school and collegiate levels (the non D1 guys more so in the collegiate level; the Stanford guy more so at the high school level). We're easily now going from a position that was a question mark at times in 2018 (although we definitely got better as the season went on) to a position of strength in 2019. In fact, this may now be our best OL in decades if the transfers are as good as advertised.

Gooseberry is a twin I believe, looking at Ouachita Baptist's web site. It appears his brother is staying in Arkansas for his senior year.

This news begs the speculation that with 4 returning starters to begin with (plus other guys who had a start here or there on the OL), will anyone on the OL be moved to the defensive side during spring ball (or possibly TE?). Either way, it will be an incredibly interesting roster battle to watch.

#NFLcurriculum

It really is going to be interesting to watch. I thought our young offensive line was going to already be a strength this year but now they’ll have a lot of competition to make them better. This is the kind of position battle good programs have every offseason and I love it. Plus if one of our goals is to get kids ready for the NFL the current starters should relish the competition.

So is Gooseberry graduating? Or is he going to sit for a year?

RE: [split] Mike Bloomgren's 2nd Rice recruiting class
We've added a DE to this year's class - Will Martinez of Lamar HS in Houston (6-2, 255 DE). I'm not sure if he's on scholarship or not but we still have some scholarships to give out.

At the roost says he's a walk-on and will be on the OL for the Owls.

Added a P from TCU. Looks like he was their starter and will attend Rice for his masters.

I think this is a huge grad transfer for us. Especially after we lose one of the best punters in the country

Actually for players wanting to get into an excellent grad program and play another year we are an attractive option.

RE: [split] Mike Bloomgren's 2nd Rice recruiting class
I'm very happy Bloomgren is so aggressive in going after grad transfers. That's 5 of them for 2019 I believe (3 OL, 1 QB, 1 P), and I don't think we are done quite yet either. And as I've said before, we are getting starters from other programs and not just back-ups anymore.

That said, this punter's stats are nowhere close to Fox. I know Fox spoiled us, but Nunez has 3 years of punting with an average each year of just under 40 yards per punt. I realize there are other important factors to consider (net average, punts inside the 20, etc.) but I am not sure this transfer will be more significant than the other four we've already announced?

Barnes is no slouch of a punter... Hope he gets a chance to compete for the job as he's been a great team player the last few years.

I agree that his stats don’t match Fox. But he’s had several years punting regularly in P5 games. And that’s a plus. I think he should bring the experience and maybe the maturity we need.

He was the third best punter in the state of Texas out of high school.

OTOH I suppose we are a distinctly unattractive option for players that just want to game the rule, nominally enroll in a grad program, do nothing but football, and drop out once the season is over and before eligibility even gets checked...which I presume describes the vast majority of them (no doubt enabled by the vast majority of schools, too). So kudos to Bloomgren for even keeping us close to net-even in the postseason grad-transfer rondelet.

I think this is a 2019 commit?

The Roost says he has some wheels.

https://twitter.com/shon_soles/status/11...61537?s=21

https://www.wendyshighschoolheisman.com/...on-palmer/

Not sure if he’s PWO or scholarship but that resume is definitely the type of recruit we want.
