That's huge...first highly established OL prospect we've signed straight out of high school in awhile.

His profile is very impressive--his offer list was too. Congratulations to CLF and the coaching staff.

I'm guessing most all OL signees redshirt; will he?

Barring a bevy of injuries I say yes. We have a lot of depth thanks to the staff's recruitment the past couple years. Keep in mind now with the new rules we can play these kids up to 4 games and still redshirt them.

I love that rule. And I love that - for the first time in a handful of years - I feel good about our pipeline on the OL.

Same here...it'll probably be a rough year on the OL this fall, but the future looks very bright. Tons of large, athletic human beings in the 60's and 70's for the Red and Black who are freshmen and sophomores.

Huge pickup by the staff. This one was a very big win for us at such a crucial position.

If Hudson gets a waiver, he very likely slots in at LT with Jakari at C, James at RG and Ferguson at RT. Wood side, Cooper, McConnell and maybe a few others will battle for the LG spot. I don’t see much of a drop off on the OL in 2019...

Anyone know if Herring and Mendiola the 2 other linemen are out of the picture or non eligible? Didn't see where they switched to any other schools, but they kind of dropped off the radar.

I"d love to add an experienced, immediately eligible transfer but even if we don't, that group has the makings of a pretty solid OL. I could even see it being better than last year's by the end of the season, especially if they stay healthy.

Working on Booker and Allen. We’ll see

Are we still working on Payton? I thought they were going all in on those 3 for the deadline... I am not sure what their "plan B" is, but the little I can find seems that the staff is putting all their eggs in those baskets.

I'm not sure how Hudson would qualify for a waiver...I kind of assume he won't until the NCAA rules, so without him at LT the left side of that line is not looking good, and did Ferguson for sure get a 6th year?

Hell Yes! This is a frosh? Where do they grow these guys? OMG this is a great pick-up.

Quote:Needing to patch some holes on the offensive line due to graduation, UC inked Dayton Dunbar's Jonathan Allen. Allen is a 6-foot-6, 310-pound offensive tackle listed as a three-star recruit by 247sports.com. He attracted offers from Ohio State, Indiana, Wisconsin, Michigan State, Michigan, Penn State and Iowa of the Big Ten; Syracuse, Georgia Tech and Louisville of the ACC; West Virginia of the Big 12; Kentucky of the SEC and most of the MAC.

Allen was ranked as one of the Top-35 players in the state and twice earned All-Southwest District honors from the Ohio Prep Sportswriters Association. The four-sport athlete also plays basketball and baseball and took part in track.

“In December, we talked about being flexible with our remaining spots and focusing on our relationships in the 50- and 300-mile radius around campus and we did that,” Fickell said. “We were able to add a big offensive lineman in Jonathan Allen from that radius. He’s a dynamic athlete who only played a couple of seasons, so his best football is ahead of him which is exciting for us. We are looking forward to getting this entire class here later this year to start developing and competing with our returning players.”

Allen is a former high school teammate of UC running back Tavion Thomas. Thomas ran for 499 yards and six touchdowns as a freshman last season. Now Allen can plow holes for the likes of Thomas, Michael Warren II and Charles McClelland.

Allen is a big get. I tend to ignore star ratings and look at who else offered. Allen had 46 including IU UK OSU PSU

Phillips other offers were MAC's.

If he fully recovers, he's a steal in line with James Hudson. Kid was a rockstar recruit early in the process prior to his injury...was a Top 250 guy on Rivals for a spell and Top 500 everywhere.

I'm hesitant to say he's anywhere on that level. Allen is a project, and Hudson, is an experienced OL'er. He's far and away a much more complete prospect who can contribute today.

His rating is based largely on potential. He's yet to realize this potential as someone like, James Hudson, has. Allen played like maybe 2 or 3 years of football. He's athletic because he's a hooper, however he's exceedingly green on the gridiron.

From what I understand he suffered a knee injury. Hopefully he can recover.

I suspect we won't really hear from him for 2 to 3 more years. He's a project after all. I love the idea of Coach Crook working with him over those years. The depth we're developing along the OL will allow us plenty of time to help him bounce back and contribute.

Mbodj transfering is interesting given how unproven the WR ranks are after Jackson once this season is done...Boose on the other hand makes tons of sense with how crowded the RB room is. I appreciate their contribution and wish them well.
