I liked this comment:
Quote:Some people agree with AOC's politics, other people think she is literally the Demon that came to turn the US into North Korea and Venezuela. Regardless of your views, everyone must watch this video, not once does she mention party or ideology, she just sheds light on a major problem with the way our system works.

I think we have a lot of reform that needs to take place on campaign financing. Not a fan of Citizens United.

I watched all of it and heard nothing I hadn't heard before. Maybe that's not the case for you, so can you tell me something that was fresh or new? Most Americans know that you can get money from say...Welches grape juice and then become a 'welcher' and still be in Congress. But that applies for most things. So whats new or how did she enlighten you?

I think JDTulane is not bringing it up as new information, but to get people's thoughts on AOC trying to bring attention to campaign finance reform, a topic that has been ignored for a while.

It seems like most of the conservatives in this thread don't really care about the topic, except 200yrs2late, who thinks it should be ignored because reform is unlikely.

And exactly what is it that you think Citizens United did that is so terrible? I ask because most of the folks I know who hate Citizens United, when I actually talk to them it turns out they don't have a clue what it iOS about.

Quote:I listened to it. I don't think she sounds that way because she's a freshman. She sounds that way because she's not that smart and she seems to be eager to open her mouth to prove it. How long did it take her to get to her first question? A minute and a half, because during most of that time she was talking about herself? She's vapid. But if the liberals want to get all excited about her, have at it.

I thinks she sounds that way because she is an airhead. But I think she takes the issue positions that all democrats support, it's just that most of them know they couldn't get elected back home if they said so.

I didn't say it should be ignored. I just don't see congress doing anything about this. To me it's a topic that could/should be handled in a convention of states since congressmen will undoubtedly act in their own best interest. Let the 50 governors set set commissions to write campaign finance law and then set the same standards for ever position from county dog catcher to president.

IMO AOC lost her way when she tried to tie the president into the lawmaking process and implied that he could be even more corrupt since he lacks the oversight yet she failed to acknowledge that he also lacks the ability to write the laws.

My idea of campaign reform is only individuals can contribute--no corporations, no unions, no PACs, no bundlers, none of that. And every contribution has to be posted on the internet within 10 minutes of receipt.

And I would consider a limit on how much candidates can spend--so many dollars for each person who voted for that position in the past election, or maybe so many dollars per person living in the district or jurisdiction. Anything you collect over the limit goes into a pool to be shared by anyone.

I apologize, I put words in your mouth.

I think a lot of us see campaign finance as a big problem, but there really doesn't seem to be a good way forward. I don't see the governors taking the lead on it, they are getting benefits too.

I think AOC is tying the president in on this because he can, and many would guess that he would, block any reform legislation.

AOC does and says a lot of things I disagree with, but on this point, she's right. The system sucks. And we who want reform should support politicians that push an issue that won't change unless politicians start sticking their neck out.

The young Turks summary vid was one of the funnier Election Night recaps on You Tube...

I highly recommend anyone looking it up.

I am thinking out loud about this statement.....

Is she just riffing on her own?
Does she not have staff who help her avoid these dumb statements?

In all honesty, I could ask the same of President Trump? When his speech is done, in less than 5 minutes there are multiples of errors pointed out? Who the hell is writing this stuff for him and not fact checking any of it?

As I get older I am finding that Statements of Fact are a lost art. People like to talk to hear themselves and sound smart.... The other day I was watching the weather and the forecaster says....

"It's raining pretty hard out there..... I recommend you bring an umbrella".

Good thing she told me that, because I was planning on putting on Sun Screen to repel the rain instead 03-banghead

Watched it. She makes some decent but obvious points. But by swerving to the Executive branch she misses the mark. That's the job of the legislators to stop /prevent the "bad guy" (whys it always a guy with this twit?) from doing these things.

Bottom line she's pointing her own gun right back at herself and her compatriots. How does she think CongressCritters go in making 175k a year with two mortgages or a mortgage and rent and stroll out 10 yrs later as millionaires?

She's gonna be met with some reaaaaaal stink-eye stares from her own people in the coat closet next time they see her.

I know she didn't try (to hard) to make it a partisan issue, and there are issues there, but it's gonna take the efforts and blessing of Granma and the rest of the hierarchy. And THAT ain' gonna happen.

But, she's certainly welcome to spend her time chasing ghosts.

Cute 5 mins. Did you see the 1 min response from the witness that followed that showed what a fing strawman she wove? That was just as cute. But that's just me.

Video of OC 'Lightning Round' 1 minute after

Actually, overturning a law that had as a penalty a term of imprisonment for publishing a political writing sounds like a good thing. But again, that's just me.

Amazing that you can comment on a 5 minute video and post in less than 4 minutes after I created the thread.

Great... so you don't like the speaker... but any comment on the actual topic at hand or what she said? Or are you just "AOC BAD. ALL SHE SAY BAD. BAD POLITICIAN. GOOD BARTENDER."

AOC is the best thing that could have happened to the Republicans. As a side note, AOC is clearly in the very hazardous “danger zone” territory per the Hot-Crazy Matrix for dating explained in the video below.

it would take a police state to enforce her agenda. squishy little liberals either don't understand that, or try to conceal the fact.
