RE: ODU
I'd take ASW over some of the scholarship players on the current roster.

RE: ODU
ASW actually played and made contributions. We have guys on scholarship that cant even get on the court despite the fact that this team is mediocre at best and lacks depth.

I agree. ASW sets the bar pretty darn low, and we have 3-4 players who can't even meet that currently.

Ehsan was straight up over matched last night. He had no answer for the 1-2-2 and it was painful to watch.

RE: ODU
Hitting outside shots from the corners would have worked.

RE: ODU
Hitting uncontested shots from the foul line while the other 9 guys on the court have to stand and watch would be a nice start.

RE: ODU
I came into this season thinking that Ehsan was probably 100% safe based on his buyout and all the other financial commitments UAB has been making to athletics. He may still be that safe but looking at our attendance, you have to wonder. The top team in our league, an old rival at that, and we draw 3,200.

The buyout is not a small issue. Neither is the opportunity cost of staying the course.

Changing coaches is just part of the major overhaul we need in basketball. However, I don't think we can make much progress on the other parts until we do.

If this is outside the game thread topic, I'll move or delete it no problem.

I do wonder if things fall apart if we get rid of him. Or if everyone only cares about football now

When Mike Davis was fired, I believe attendance was a big factor if I remember correctly.

RE: ODU
I know Davis is much maligned on this board and I understand why but he only had two poor seasons at UAB: his first when his best players were sitting out for transfer rules and his last. Every other season resulted in an NIT or NCAA bid, even if he didnt manage to win the big games. Ehsan hasnt even gotten us an invite to one of the garbage post season tournaments and he wont this year either.

RE: ODU
Attendance under Davis was actually one of the last times it was somewhat decent.
He wasn't let go because of attendance or record.

RE: ODU
something drastic has to happen and, unfortunately, I believe its out of our hands.

Always remember, the only reason we got Bill Clark is that Garrick McGee left on his own. No one at UAB pulled the trigger to get rid of him. We would not be in the sweet position we are in with football if that hadn't happened. Not that I fear the end of the end of the basketball program, but that it will be allowed to just linger on life support.

Our women's program has been energized by Randy Norton and it took him a few years to get it going but you could see from the jump that he wanted to recruit a different kind of player and play a different kind of game. Maybe we should consider coming out in force to support our women's program? There are a lot of things to like about it...

But it seems like Ingram has been quick to pull the trigger for other sports. I realize that basketball is a different animal, and maybe it was more clearing of the old Bartow guard rather than firings due to results. But Ingram didn't tolerate long-term poor results for softball or men's soccer.

those coaches had been around for a long time....and had ties to Gene Bartow if you're looking for nefarious conspiracy theories. I don't see HCRE meeting either of those criteria.

As the unforced exit of McGee to Louisville brought us to hire Clark, the Clemson hire of Coach Smith brought UAB to hire Norton (who brought his son along). Fate can be seen in retrospect to work to our good fortunes.

Attendance has always been an issue at UAB. I recall UAB Forum posters being happy with the smaller UAB Arena saying that our crowds were swamped by the larger venue downtown and would look larger in the new arena. We are hearing the same claims today about moving from Legion Field to the BJCC stadium. We will see in the next decade how that works out.

What excuse is everyone going to use and what option would be next after Kennedy tanks at UAB?

What is your deal with Kennedy? It’s not like we’re doing any better with the appointed blazertalk HC
