Texas Republican Rep. Will Hurd came on the show to discuss the border wall, which he opposes. The host went on to ask the congressman why he remains a member of the GOP and sides with “traitor” President Trump.

“I'm a Republican because I believe in limited government,” Hurd responded, prompting Maher to interject and accuse Republicans of not actually supporting smaller government.

“I'm just asking why you're Republican? Because they're not good at the debt, that was their big thing. You said limited government, they don't do that.” Maher said. “What's in it for you? What is in the Republican Party for you? You were in the CIA!”

Hurd responded: “I was in the CIA for almost a decade. I was the dude in the back alleys at 4 o'clock in the morning collecting intelligence on threats to the homeland.”

That’s when Maher made the joke. “That's where you'd collect it, huh? Wow. By the Popeyes Chicken?”

Following the exchange, people on Twitter accused Maher of making a racist joke to the congressman.

“Bill Maher insults black CIA vet by suggesting he picked up tips ‘behind the Popeye's Chicken’ same day as Ralph Northam admits he submitted racist af blackface Klan photo to yearbook - it's almost like this is all a game to them,” tweeted the Federalist publisher Ben Domenech.

I don't know? You would think that Col Sanders would be considered racists by today's whacko standards. But maybe the truth lies elsewhere. Coretta Scot King is a major shareholder in Churches Fried Chicken. I say that because nobody wants to go back to the kitchen help wringing the necks of yard birds, plucking them, cutting them up, and frying them for the plantation owner which is where it really gained popularity. I'm just glad I grew up with the pulley bones.

Here's the difference, he doesn't have advertisers. Plus, I don't see that as a racist joke.

It’s a cable show where ratings matter. They drop so does he. His joke was slightly more racist than Roseanne’s comment.

It wouldnt have been a "joke" if he was talking to a white guy. Actually it would have been weird. So yes. It was absolutely racist. But its OK because Maher is a self proclaimed "house ******".

Maher's a schwarmy, arrogant bastard who's only job is to say outrageous things. That said I don't think this will get him fired. The Libs have different standards for their own kind.

Perhaps, but do you seriously think that if someone like Tim Allen or Dennis Miller had said that same thing to a black democrat congressman the left wouldn't be foaming at the mouth over it?

If people refuse to go onto his show, then it will take some damage.

It does no good to accuse Bill Maher of being a racist because that’s not against the rules in Liberal circles

I love spicy Popeye's chicken w/ red beans and rice.

I was intrigued by Churches about a month ago and picked up a 2-piece meal. I still prefer Popeye's.

I can't do KFC at all.

And here I was doing good until you guys mentioned fried chicken. I've eaten too much of that stuff lately. And yes, Popeye's is good.
