NSD for HS football talent is Wed. Feb 6th
Although diminished somewhat by the new Early Signing dates, there may still be unsigned talent out there to be harvested by perceptive coaches looking for that overlooked "diamond in the rough".

Seems to have somewhat split the number of signees in half between the 2 dates.
Not sure about number of spots left but I'm guessing anywhere from 6 to 10 will sign next week.

Oversigning more than a program can keep is an annual problem for good programs. 25 per year over 5 years (to play 4 seasons) adds up to 125 but only 85 can be kept each September. Transfers, those who just quit (team or school), those who remain without scholarship, etc. pare the numbers to fit the NCAA rules. Even the best recruiting coaches must work within these choices.

More likely P5 coaches poaching G5 commits that didn't sign in Nov in place of the 4- and 5-star players they really wanted who are signing someplace else...

Many of the late NSD prospects may be the academically suspect, the recovering injured, the "late bloomers" or the simply indecisive who put off making hard choices.
Of course some may become fall back choices for P5 programs, but most are probably still waiting for their preferred offer that did not arrive in Dec.
Feb.6th may be like holding out for the right prom date the day before the prom. That can be when a G5 offer might get more of their attention.

Well one of the jokers decided that UAB's offer wasn't good enough & decided to go for schools in bigger ponds that didn't even know that he was a fish before UAB.

It is like the players who transferred to other basketball programs from UAB in that mixed results are possible. If that player turns out to be as good as the P5 coach led him to believe he can be, his choice may a good one for him. It is also possible that he will only "get splinters from riding the pine" in the future (and we may see him come back to UAB as a transfer).

I would guess that the junior day deal was the last visitor situation although I'm not positive.
Didn't see any mentions by anyone of visitors.

I get the impression they know who they are signing on Wed. More will trickle in over weeks to follow. Some of our best defensive players this past year signed in the spring two years ago out if JUCO. The DT Fair is the commit most likely to have a P5 take a last minute run at him.
Hoping for at least one grad transfer on the O line and one at WR and LB. dont know of any leaning our way except maybe Mixon, the receiver/back out of Mi$$ $t.

Our coaches were the first to offer to him so they saw something good there. I doubt they would let a grudge feeling alone affect their decision if he should ask about transferring to UAB.

Saw a tweet by a DE from Georgia that apparently is in town this weekend.
May be a few others.

We are not in a position to tell a potential 3-4 star D lineman to go pound sand because he wants to see what's out there.
We are also not in a position to hold a scholarship until he makes a decision. We move on with no hard feelings but keep in contact. If he decides to come and there's a scholarship, great. If he decides to come but there are no scholarships, well, that's the risk.

UAB offered RB Abram Smiley out of Pensacola a few days ago. 5-11, 200+ size. Not a lot of offers, but maybe a sleeper. This staff has a good eye for undervalued RB talent.
