Note: LSU, Auburn and Miss St didn't participate.

And the only home team to lose was Ole Miss. That's one thing that just keeps me from getting too riled up about basketball. Football has much less of a home field advantage than home court does in hoops. IMO this would be a better event as a tournament played at a neutral site to kick off basketball season, than as a one weekend affair after conference play has begun.
No conference would do this if it was a neutral site event. The excitement comes from home games against a good conference that normally doesn’t happen at this point in the season. And, all I’ve heard/read about the last 2 days in college basketball is this event, because it’s unique.

Perhaps this is the part you meant to add to your post but forgot?

Cheers,
Neil
Or maybe my highlighted part responding to the post. I mean, it’s January, so I wasn’t referring to challenges in the beginning of the season.

03-banghead

In your mind and based upon what you were thinking I get that now, although using the term "unique" still needs a better qualifier (but that's probably the professor in me coming out). But at the very least perhaps you understand now that wasn't the case for everyone?

Peace,
Neil

I don't think SEC fans like the idea of playing the Big 12 in this challenge. I think I read one fan say the Big 12 is a dead conference.

Who cares what one fan thinks? It was probably an Aggie.

The Big 12 is an excellent conference, and playing this kind of challenge is exactly what the SEC committed to doing a few years ago to boost their schedules and improve overall basketball performance.

Not sure why the sec picks the big 12 for the sugar bowl and a basketball challenge instead of the ACC

Not sure about the Sugar Bowl, but the ACC already had its challenge with the BIG, even before the SEC/B12 challenge came about. ESPN loves that ACC/BIG challenge.

ACC would be perfect for a basketball showdown with the SEC and the B1G and PAC doing one themselves but unfortunately contracts are what they are....at least for the time being

In football, the SEC has more affinity with Oklahoma and Texas, traditional blue-blood powers that the ACC lacks. Plus, the SEC and ACC play plenty of games via the annual rivalry games that take place between several ACC and SEC schools.

In basketball, the SEC doesn't have its "pick" the way it does in football.

The ACC already has a challenge with the B1G, and both are more prestigious basketball conferences than the SEC.

RE: Big 12/SEC Challenge
Clemson and Florida State both have more recent titles than either OU or UT

The ACC is the better match to the SEC but the preexisting contracts and the end of year rivalry matchups prevent it for now

That's a way to look at it from the conference perspective. However, ACC basketball vs the Big 10 draws from the most rabid two basketball markets. The SEC vs the Big 12 draws from the two most concentrated and rabid football markets. Having the SEC vs Big 12 hoops weekend when they do is clearly a ratings ploy by ESPN. Where else at this time of the basketball season do you have solid cross conference play? It is a made for television event that gleans more value out of two weaker basketball products and one which doesn't interfere with the highly successful ACC vs B1G challenge. Both of course are ESPN products. It's about the network Quo!

It was. The t-shirt variety fan who "supposedly" graduated from a little 8 school in the big dumpster fire.04-cheers

By the way, good game in Lubbock tonight. Tech looks like they will pick up their 17th win and 5th win in the big dumpster fire vs 10th's frogs

No offense but this sounds like sour grapes.

Both leagues agreed to the series and both leagues just renewed it for another 6 years.

Does it upset you that you get zero coverage in Dallas, Austin, and San Antonio now? You already had Houston.

Umm not sure which paper or TV stations you watch but living here in Dallas it hasn’t missed a beat. But maybe if we do like SMU and put up a bunch of billboards begging Dallas to notice and pay attention to us...

I bet TCU fans love the way you talk about your alma mater and conference.

You can have the last word so I don't get in trouble.
