That is true, but the whole MAC seems to be in that boat right now. BGSU got embarrassed today at Miami. Right now I think one would have to label UB's chances at MAC tourney win as 80%

Really need James to get going. He has been a liability the past two games. Just really loose with the ball. He needs to get stronger w the ball. Nice potential just needs to get some confidence [/u]

I only read the play by play and it says Lacey missed a layup to tie at the end of the game. Coming off a missed free throw (assuming intentional) I’m guessing the layup was heavily contested. Did anyone see it? Was it a make with better than 50% probability?

He had no chance! German intentionally missed free throw and James tried to bat the miss in.

Thanks for the response...I figured it was an intentional miss....I'm pretty sure that "wildly batted ball towards basket--miss" isn't part of official game play jargon. Appreciate the response.

I will say that German and James executed that play perfectly though other than it just didn’t go in.

Perfect play but a tough play to make with Akron player boxing out on a free throw.

I wonder how many of German's basket come off an assist? He creates and makes so many difficult shots. He is such a great pure shooter. I just wish MM would run some offensive sets to get the German the ball for a nice clean shot. What an offensive talent going to waste.

Some of it could be a product of high school and earlier development. German has probably always been best player on his teams and always created his own shots

Even after the Akron loss, NIU moves up ten spots to 108 in Kenpom. I have NIU finishing as 10-8 as a 5 seed

Yeah, was a tip in try, very difficult. Hard to make that determination in the heat of the moment, but James had time to actually grab the ball, come down and go right back up.

You look at the overall stats, and NIU looks like a nicely balanced team, but that's not how it plays out in games. You'll have 5 minutes where the offense is German and only German, but Thorpe, Bradley, and the inside game disappear. And then Thorpe will take over for 5 min, and then Bradley, after being shy and barely touching the ball for 15 min, will all of the sudden hit some shots. It's just odd. I'd like to say Monty could find a way in the next month to get a little more consistent cohesion going, but history would tell us that won't happen.

Actually Monty and Baker talked about that in the post game. Monty doesn’t see it as a negative like you do. Bill said over past 3 games Germans points have come towards end of game. Monty says that’s ok, you do other things then your time will come to score.

17huskie, here’s a good example of what you’re saying. Monty said we got off to a great start but actually only Thorpe was scoring. Thorpe scored 8 of first 11 points.

17 turnovers. SEVENTEEN. Many of them unforced.

That game was there for the taking.

+1- I cannot agree with you more about many of the turnovers were completely unforced. Just butterfinger type stuff. Really frustrating. This and missing several layup bunnies is the story of the game. We were the better team out there, just let this one slip away. Our upside with everything clicking is really exciting and will keep me glued to this team the rest of the year. I hope it all comes together because the potential for something special is there.

Chicago Huskie, you make some good points but don’t you think they are running out of games to have a successful or special season? When they couldn’t win either NKU game and lost to James Madison, Green Bay and at home vs CMU it pretty much said this isn’t a championship caliber team. It basically showed you that they can beat almost any team on schedule but lose to anybody on schedule. Also, the not being able to put a winning streak together by now is a sign that they are what you think they are, a average at best MAC team.

This was going to be the MACC season of: Porter, German, Wilson, Bradley, Key, Pauga, James and Thomas. Wasn’t meant to be I guess!

I get your point, we are pretty far into the season & it has been an average result. It is being optimistic and probably not realistic, but my rose colored goggles are hoping for a run of of MAC regular season and MAC Tourney victories. It is not likely at all, but it feels so close that this team has it in them if they can pull it all together. The talent IMO is there.
