Strength of schedule, correct me if I'm wrong but I believe Michigan, Indiana, Nebraska and Northwestern had better SOS than Notre Dame last year. Is this what you're asking, JR? I'll have to look and see for sure.

Plus, I believe 9 of the 14 BIG teams play 10 P5 games in 2019 and Purdue might play 11?

Yep. I think Delany is taking his shot at N.D.'s scheduling, and the fact that the SEC and ACC only play 8 conference games. When I say Delany I'm not referencing a public statement, just noting that behind the doors the go ahead was probably given for this.

Personally I would love to see an end to OOC games between the P conferences and for each conference to play at least 10 games. Doing this would give us two huge things most P fans want to see: more games against rivals and neighbors which will be good for season ticket sales and ease of travel, and it enhances the post season tremendously when a few early season OOC games no longer become a barometer for how strong or weak a conference is. This alone will place more emphasis upon champions meeting.

As someone interested in realignment, this kind of move would also refocus realignment on schools seeking meaningful games in conferences they have more in common with, and since the market model is dead except for T3, it means regional and cultural fit along with content value take the forefront in any future realignment.

Some schools who have an arch rival in another conference might have to seriously rethink their choices. In the end putting the emphasis on your conference play will be healthy for everyone.

I don't expect many to agree with me on this, but I think it's time our presidents and commissioners think about it. It will drive interest, sell tickets, and make the game a bit more popular again.

I could live with this - but ONLY if conference champs were given autobids. With ZERO non-conference games, it would become utterly impossible to compare teams from two different conferences - there would be no point of reference! (and don't say "Who beat directional U by a bigger margin?" or "Who looks best in their uniforms?" [so-called 'Eye test'] - that's all meaningless). If you want to go 10 or 11 conference games (or 12 - why not? forces everyone to play 6 home/6 away games!) with autobids for conference champs -- then we REALLY have "every game is important" again.
I like it, and get rid of divisions and we have optimized every conferences potential. Really wouldn't need to expand playoffs either in my opinion. This would eliminate the "we should have been in" argument even further.

Just do 12 conference games and you don;t have to worry about the Big Slow getting exposed as overrated until the postseason.
Meh, I dont know about Big Slow if you're talking about a conference as a whole. I mean the team known as the slowest, (Wisconsin), has had their way with those Super Duper, speedy, lightning fast ACC schools lately.

Now if you want to talk about individual schools? Yep, Ohio State looked really slow against Clemson. I know this is what you really wanted to say but for some reason you grouped a whole conference into it.

Ohio State is the Big Slow in it's entirety. Going to be sweet to listen tot he incessant whining of entitled suckeye fans whine when they get left out of the playoffs yet again.

Whining? Please show me on here where any Buckeye fans whined. I've never seen it at all. What I have seen is fans like you continue to say this but I never see it. To go even further, there was a post about Delany on here and CFP expansion. All I seen was people talking about BIG fans whining about being left out yet I never seen any of this on here.

I have a ton of respect for Clemson, even could become a dynasty with what Dabo is doing. But Clemson fans just suck. Kind of like Tennessee fans, it's like Napoleon disease or something like that. Insecure about there own success and bash others to feel bigger. Yes, you're small! It's okay shorty, we dont get offended by being called Suckeyes!

2019 was supposed to be TCU’s return game to Columbus in the one for one deal then ESPN got involved.

RE: 2019 Big Ten football schedule: softest EVER?
So Ohio State plays two P5 schools last season and gets crap for not having any scheduled in 2019? Cincinnati finished in the top 25, right? Isn't that a solid opponent? Not to mention, everyone craps on Ohio State for dodging Cincinnati and say how it would be a great rivalry but when they get them on the schedule people whine that OSU has a weak non-conference lineup. Can't please the haters so it's best to just ignore them.

The great thing is that we'll eventually see how strong or weak it ends up being.

I wouldn't say that Ohio State dodges Cincy, because we've played a few games in the last two decades and we play again in 2019. What I would say is that Ohio State dodges playing UC in Cincinnati. If home field advantage means anything, then the odds are always stacked in OSU's favor.

Of course, OSU did play their spring game in Cincy a few years ago, a classy way of rubbing our noses in it. But play Cincy in Cincy? They don't have the balls.

Based on this comment, I expect you to defend Washington for having no P5 non-conference opponents scheduled in 2019, just because Washington, like Ohio State, played one in 2018. 07-coffee3

I don't think that the Big Ten teams are allowed to play the "Best Available Reschedule" card. I could swear I've seen that card played for other teams, but it's just a vague recollection and I'm not about to go hunt up the receipts.

Washington only played one P5 in 2018 while Ohio State played two. Based on that, I'm much more willing to give OSU a pass for the following year than UW. I'm definitely very worthy of being criticized but I don't understand what about my comment above you deem invalid.

And have B10 officials. Back in 2014 the refs took two TDs off the board for UC. One of the refs was doing the OH-IO cheer during the game and had a Brutus Buckeye tat.

We are not on Eleven Warriors site though are we, Kaplony? I guess if you go to the team specific site you might find whining.. duh! Like I said , show me on this site all the whining from Ohio State and BIG fans.

The only people that whine on here are ACC fans more than any other group. They ride the back of Clemson and degrade all others, plain and simple!

I'll go one step further, why do you think fan bases as large as BIG teams and even Notre Dame dont have very many fans on this site? It's really simple, we dont really care that much about conference pride. That's all this site has become, "I'm in the same conference as the current National Champion" so I cant have a civilized conversation with a fan from Ohio State, Michigan, Notre Dame, Penn State etc... I was warned by others before joining but I really wanted the point of view from other regions.

One last thing. It really wasn't that long ago when we were in the BCS format. Remember that ACC fanboys? Remember that wonderful record you all had in BCS bowl games? Ok, just making sure you all still remember the RECENT past beyond Ohio State- Clemson! And dont forget, as we stand today the BIG and SEC have the same amount of SCOOLS that have won National Championships in the CFP.

Later!!!

RE: 2019 Big Ten football schedule: softest EVER?
So let me get this straight: if an SEC team only schedules 9 P5 games and 3 G5/FCS schools that's fine but if the Big Ten does it they are suddenly scheduling weak?

If anything the Big Ten is only copying the strategy that the Southerners have been using for years to inflate their conference win totals and increase their bowl appearances.

Conferences like the Big Ten, PAC 12, and Big 12 have pushed hard to make the standard 10 P5 games but the SEC won't budge on their cupcake feasts why should those leagues continue making harder schedules and then get penalized for it?

Perhaps the new Big Ten scheduling model should be that only the top half of the conference schedules P5 OOC games. Everyone else can schedule 2 for 1s with high G5s and pay games for low level G5s.

Talk about your misdirected hostility, you do realize that I am the only SEC poster in this thread and I said I was fine with it if the Big 10 only played 9 P games. First CUBucks misstates in an argument with Kaplony that the Big 10 has just as many schools who have won a Natty in the CFP as the SEC when he meant also to say ACC, and now you chime in slamming the SEC's scheduling when nobody from the SEC has criticized Ohio State for only having 9 P games. In fact to the contrary.

I wish you numb nuts would get your arguments straight here. By the way the S.O.S. of an SEC schedule is sufficient, and several of our states mandate or heavily request games against smaller state schools because it funds their budgets to get them.

But keep your venom directed in the right direction here. And repeat after me, "I will read the thread, the whole thread, and nothing but thread, before I make some wild assumption."

And for the record since the SEC averages 77,000 per game per school in attendance, and since the average contribution for the right to buy two season ticket books is around $700 and since said season books average around $500-550 per book, and since the average SEC school will pull in around 6 million for home gate and concessions, we schedule those who will play us only in our venues because it is so damned profitable to do so. The ball game down here is insuring 7 home games because the failure to do so costs us between 4 to 5 million when we don't. Neutral site games are pushed by the networks and hated by the A.D.'s. This "feasting" crap is what the fan boys say when they are ignorant of the business of running the athletic department.

Dear God, JRsec, did you seriously read it that way? Numb Nuts, really? I was f***ing stating the BIG and SEC have the same amount of schools as in compared to the ACC. You know, the fans I am in a debate with?

Why don't you pay attention to whose post I was quoting. I wasn't referencing your post except to say you probably meant to add the ACC into the sentence about the number of schools each conference has had to win a CFP championship.

So again, the moniker applies to any poster who can't keep their focus. Fighting Muskie for attacking the SEC when the only SEC poster in the thread, me, was supportive of OSU's position, and now you for not realizing who it was that I was addressing.
