Conference - Love/Hate
AAC - love UCF, hate ECU
ACC - love NC State, hate UNC
Big 12 - love WVU, hate Kansas
Big Ten - love Penn State, hate Michigan
CUSA - love Marshall, hate Charlotte/ODU
MAC - love Ohio, hate Toledo
MWC - love Wyoming, don't really hate any of them
PAC - love CU, hate ASU
SBC - love all of you equally, hate all of you even more
SEC - love Tennessee, hate Alabama

You love NC State?

I have a love/hate relationship with both NCSU and WF, solely due to family and relationships.

Just checking. I don't mind NC State because their fans tend to be much more grounded than those at UNC. I don't particularly care for college basketball much less a specific program so Duke people don't really bother me. I just find it interesting how the make up of the student body and the public fan base couldn't be more different.

Lol if you think N.C. State fans are grounded you should go read some PackPride. For a program that doesn’t contend for championships in any sport they can get pretty cocky over there.

Only reserve “love/hate” for the SBC and ACC. Every other conference gets the “like/dislike” treatment.

AAC - like USF, dislike ECU
ACC - love UNC, hate Duke
Big 12 - like ISU, dislike OK
Big Ten - like Iowa, dislike OSU
CUSA - like UAB, dislike UNCC
MAC - like BGSU, dislike none of them..
MWC - like CSU, dislike none of them..
PAC - like Cal, dislike USC
SBC - love App, hate you know
SEC - like Vandy, dislike UK

Yea, ncstate has 1, JUST ONE, 10 win season in their entire program history and they perceive themselves as the top football program in NC. Very annoying, especially since they claim themselves as this state's "Football" school.

Eggzactly. They don't have a hope of finishing higher than 3rd in their division, let alone the conference..

From an outsiders perspective NCST seems to have a great fanbase and be likable. More so than UNC.

But then again, most non Texans probably have a hard time understanding how most Texans either love or absolutely detest A&M.

I like TAMU sometimes, but I always despise UT Austin. After UTA beat them in basketball in 2016-17, UT Austin wouldn't play us the next year, while we were still loaded. Then, this year, we're in rebuilding mode, so they wanted us on the schedule. Not a class act!

By "name game" are you referring to ULL's attempt to increase it's prestige by referring to itself as The University of Louisiana even though it's just a directional U like most of G5 and FCS?

Exhibit A^

But to humor you, absolutely. Perusing through your post history to see if you were worth engaging, I noticed you posted the following:
Quote:The names don't matter. SBC schools are all in the shadow of an SEC Big Boy, except App. That makes it a little more difficult to develop alumni donors who don't become bandwagon SEC followers. Even the folks who live in our community footprint are all about UGA, Bama, LSU, Auburn, Clemson, USC, Texas, A&M, Arkansas.

App has it pretty good being in a state where UNC, Duke, Wake Forest and NC ST are the "Power" 5 football schools.

Names don't matter to you because there's no vacuum in your state. Your apathy towards "directional U" name issues is actually expected. There's Georgia, Georgia State, and Georgia Tech. Georgia Southern will always remain Georgia Southern, and there is nothing wrong with that.

It's no secret the ambition of my school has been to fill the vacuum in OUR state, much to the chagrin of graduates of other in-state schools. A state that doesn't have a University of Louisiana. Fellow Cajun fans have skirted the accusations by claiming we only brand ourselves as Louisiana for athletics, and that's true.

But I believe most of us, if not all, desire for our academic school to become the University of Louisiana. Have we earned it yet? Unsure. Our endowment is second to LSU (public universities), although admittedly a far-off second (LSU: $845m, UL Lafayette: $178m, LaTech: $99m, McNeese: $75m). Fans keep claiming we're about to reach the Carnegie classification of R1, which I'm also unsure of. But I won't fault myself for wanting the school I got my degree from to gain prestige.

I feel like others in the Sun Belt should be rooting for us, although I realize some of our fans make it hard. Most opponents say we're trying to claim to be something that we aren't, but I'd say it's more along the lines of striving to become something more than what we are. That's exciting to me. And here I am entertaining a name-game derailment (that I claimed I hated in another thread). Apologies, and cheers to the SBC on this new year.

Every Cajun should have a portrait of Bruno over their mantle. He basically signed off on you being Louisiana and after that it has pretty much been what you are called. We feel like we fought the battle and he lost the war with the stroke of a pen. I would at least think that would stop some of the animosity, as you guys essentially won, as we missed the field goal at the end (pun intended) and Bruno blew it. Congrats.

Many ULM fans don't like the fact they aren't called NLU any more. They still revile Lawson Swearingen for that move.

But if they hadn't done it, they'd be challenging for Southland titles and playing Incarnate Word every year.

I was actually for the change personally. I would rather be in the Sunbelt than have whatever name though I will say. I do think we would have been better off, not the Cajuns obviously, if we had become North Louisiana University and the Cajuns had become University of South Louisiana or University of Acadiana. The last is a super cool name. Anyway, it is what it is, but there shouldn’t be anymore name animosity coming from the Cajuns to ULM cause you guys won. I imagine our ESPN play by play will
be calling you Louisiana today. Did last game. I’m not thrilled about that, but wish we could put this behind us and make it a friendly mutually beneficial rivalry like App and GS since we are stuck with each other. I won’t ever call you UL or Louisiana, but I do try to just use Cajuns. What does suck though is all the announcers for other schools call y’all Louisiana, but is UL-Monroe, Louisiana-Monroe, or Monroe and not ULM. If y’all are called Louisiana, we should be called ULM in conference at least. A la Cal and UCLA. Only seems fair.

Congrats.

I think Bruno figures out he had bigger fish to fry than waste time fighting another university over branding.

Every ULM fan should have a picture of Authement who got ULM into the Sun belt.

Dr. Authement played lets make a deal. I'll get you into the Sun Belt. You'll change your name so we can change ours.

Many ULM fans don't like the fact they aren't called NLU any more. They still revile Lawson Swearingen for that move.

But if they hadn't done it, they'd be challenging for Southland titles and playing Incarnate Word every year.

Gonna step down and say hey today Jay.

I'm just glad we got y'all back on the football schedule...

Penny has shown he likes to offer mid-major hoops programs 2-for-1 deals...I wish we would offer ASU basketball a 2-for-1 deal as that series just makes sense.
