There is also the possibility he becomes the head coach in waiting if we have another offensive bust of a season.

Wut?

If Woody becomes HCIW and/or takes over?

I could see him doing it. He was at Wofford a long time and saw the success they had with their flavor of it.

I'll be honest, Dan Ellington could be an absolute beast in option offense. Our other QBs, Jack Walker and Swift Lyle, would instantly transfer out.

Need a smallish, quick QB in the offense that runs a sub 4.5.

Nothing against GS, getting Woody is in my opinion is the best hire this yr in the SBC, congrats, but I have to wonder why the best offer he could land was at GS? We all know how good he was at APP, and GT’s defense showed much improvement last yr, you would think with his resume a P5 school would have hired him almost immediately, maybe it’s something as simple as his families desire to stay in Atlanta, I don’t know this hire seems alittle off.

I wonder if it was a timing issue.

Maybe he was holding out hope for the Army job when the rumors circled then other coaches trying to fill their staffs decided to skip Woody due to the Army rumor. Next thing you know, Army falls through and he is left with no other DC offers.

RE: Nate Woody Added to GSU Football Staff
The S&C conditioning officially begins under the new head S&C coach, John Sisk.

While Woody will make a difference on the field, I'm cautiously optimistic that Sisk may become the hero of this offseason. His resume is pretty impressive..dedicated 20 years at Clemson, Vanderbilt, and Georgia Tech to improve speed, conditioning, and strength of athletes. Sisk's S&C regimen produced some notable athletes around the NFL and MLB, including Jay Cutler (2006 No.11 pick Chicago), Chris Williams (2008 No.14 pick Chicago), David Price (2007 No.1 pick Tempa Bay), Pedro Alvarez (2008 No.2 pick Pittsburg), Mike Minor (2009 No.7 pick Atlanta), Casey Weathers (2007 No.8 pick Colorado), and so on.

Sisk also brought his own S&C staffers including Coach Dan Sutton, Alex Drenthal, Will Bryan, etc....
And yes..math doesn't compute....I have no idea how we can afford all these salaries unless Charlie Cobb approved a substantial increase in staff budget.

No you don't.

That’s the bonafides for that position. Sure, a different type could exceed, but it would be seriously bucking the trend.

Maybe Nate Woody wasn't the secret to the sauce in the AppState defense as we all thought. Maybe it was Bryan Brown, Dale Jones and company all the way and that is why we actually got better after Woody left. It is really weird that Woody didn't end up on the staff at either Louisville, AppState or another P5.

Jaybo Shaw did not run anything remotely close to a 4.5

Woody designed the defense. He taught Sloan & Brown how to run it. It is a funky scheme based on gaps and guickness rather than bulk and size. Drinkwitz reached out to Roof when he was contacted by Gillin. Woody was still employed by GT and I'm fairly certain Satterfield rewarded Brown for his excellent work at App.

I haven't been a fan of Elliot at all. He just didn't seem to be all that great. With these two hires though, GSU could get better in a hurry.
