It’s a nice list to be on but it’s just based on the number of doctoral programs you have and the amount of $ you spend on research. It has nothing to do with quality or undergraduate education (which is how most of us are affiliated with our university).

UH has been yelling that they made Tier 1 for years but they’re still ranked something like 180th in undergrad education.

Let’s shoot for some additional AAU members if we’re going to aim for a status.

Yes, that's 6 C-USA universities with this designation. Not too bad. MWC has 5 if I counted correctly. SBC has 2. AAC has 7. MAC has 1.

What academic designation is not based on metrics? It is impossible to accurately gauge the education process or as you state quality of instruction received.

Look, you guys are still Kings of the CUSA Academic Hill, no one is doubting that. However most of us don't have a five and a half billion dollar endowment, so let us enjoy our own triumphs.

Speaking of that endowment, can't you use some of it to fund a new stadium? Or at least a decent broadcast?
