Trump rejects Republican generated compromise to reopen govt
https://www.wmtw.com/article/president-t...s/25861387

Quote:AUGUSTA, Maine —
As the partial federal government shutdown reaches three weeks, Maine U.S. Sen. Susan Collins said President Donald Trump rejected a compromise earlier this week to reopen the government.

Collins told WMTW News 8 political reporter Paul Merrill that she and four other Republican senators put together a compromise plan Wednesday night.

The plan included some funding for border security as well as immigration reforms, Collins said.

She said the group pitched the compromise to Vice President Mike Pence on Thursday.

Pence presented the plan to the president, who rejected it, Collins said.

"I'm very disappointed because I really felt that this was a pathway to reopening government and strengthening our border," Collins said.

Trump has the democrats back on their heels on this. Why does it not surprise me to see some try to get in the middle and screw it up.

Its 5.7billion. There doesnt need to be a f*cking compromise on that number, because the number is low as it is.

Good. Fund the wall or it stays closed.

Trump wants about 234 Miles, we built 700 Miles under Obama.

So what was her proposed compromise.. Let's not forget Collins is one of the most liberal Republicans still in Congress... so I'd have to see what was in her proposal (if it was hers?)

Trump needs to not do the National Emergency either. That will let them off the hook. There are a lot of Dem. reps that have a lot of government employees as constituents and they will start bitching soon and they will give in. He will have to confront the Dems in Congress sooner or later. This had to be planned he is putting them on the spot Day one of their term as the majority. First one to blink loses.

JDTulane rejects self imposed ban he was supposed to adhere to because he’s a sore loser and not an honorable person.

Another week and a half and the cost of the shutdown will exceed this #

No because I dont think the current border status is some crazy national emergency crisis and the funding source he has mentioned pulling from needs it more. I support him passing bipartisan legislation that has already passed house and senate to end the shutdown.

Even Reoublicans have submitted compromises to Trump and hes rejected them.

So, you support the dems folding, and funding what they claim they want and have previously voted for?

Well if Trump were going to compromise, I think the border wall funding part of the deal should be $13billion since cost to complete is $26billion. Technically he already compromised by only asking for $5.7billion.

Which is why the shutdown belongs to Trump. This isnt a dictatorship where he gets whatever he wants. So a shutdown remains.

Wasn’t it a year ago when they agreed to reopen the govt and the Dems were supposed to negotiate and they refused and the whole sh*thole story came out. So yea it belongs to Trump because the left can’t negotiate and playtime is over.

Because Nancy said no to the wall. She should learn to control what comes out of the pie-hole of hers.

Well when the other side says no right off the bat there’s no need to talk. I understand in your life you probably fold like a lawn chair and give the other side what they want and then some. Usually I tell them sorry and move on. Within a week they’ll call to see if they can try again. Usually I get what I want.

So much for Democrat logic that the wall is "too costly". Their petty politics has already cost us more.
