His comment was him deflecting all of the praise he just got heaped upon him. It had nothing to do with NIU fans.

Anyone taking it that way is only doing it because they know they deserve it

Yeah I heard about that guy at Huskie Stadium that got out of control, you are never going to be able to eliminate the 1 percent or 0.5 percent drunk idiot fans, but Carey deserved criticism for his time at NIU, there is no doubt about that. If he thinks he will never be challenged or questioned at Temple, good luck with that! In fact, he might find that Temple fans will be even more aggressive than NIU fans in holding him to a high standard. And trust me, he will never be allowed to tank 6 bowls in a row at Temple and still have a job.
