I do think we have to rethink our defensive philosophy of giving up 3 pointers and fouling on every drive to the basket.

Still only gave up .9 points per possession. It's not so much a defensive philosophy thing as a team still figuring out when to help and where rotations should come from. They've mostly been good on defense but their issues in those areas have left the three point line open at times.

They're still a top 20 defense so they are doing a lot right.

yeah theres no way mick is coaching to triple team a guy and leave a 45% shooter wide open. guys are helping when they aren't supposed to because its new to them.

Because when they can’t put the ball in the hoop they press and way overplay on defense. Put some balls through the hoop and that defense can sit down in their stance and and squeeze the life out of teams like a boa constrictor

Can you imagine shooting 14/23 from 3 at home and LOSING???

Could you even image UC making 14 three’s in a conference game?

Feels amazing to me. Thrilling regular season road win. Cane at the end of regulation and jarron in ot coming up huge.

I'm thrilled we won, but the last two games have greatly reduced my expectations for this team. Prior to the ECU game I was thinking a 5 seed was possible. Now, I'm not even sure if this team can make the tournament. Hopefully, these last two games are just a result of sickness, or just a mid-season funk.

Same here. They won't chit in the tourney if they make it.

I know the early exit of Evans hurt...hurt bad, but even with him, this team would still be not great. Mick has done a CRAP JOB of recruiting and no end in sight.

goodness sakes, what games have you been watching?
Mick has done a great job putting cincinnati bearcats on the map again. Program should have been shut down for a year after Kennedy left with zero recruits coming in. Go buy the book about the forgotten bearcats. A great read about some young men that came in to keep UC basketball alive.

plus it was against a UC team decimated by the flu bug? A Great performance by a lot of sick young men along with sick coaches. Hats off to them on a great road win.

amen, Bruce. I was disappointed in his first half play but he helped keep this team in the game.

great win with so much adversity tonight. Team made me proud.

ECU couldn't miss against us but 4-22 on three point shots against Memphis. Freshman Gardner really looks special though wish we had him on our front line.

enlighten us

Through 34 minutes, combined with his normal defense, Broome's stat line was:

0-5 shooting
0-4 from three point range
2-2 on free throws
2 fouls
1 turnover (I swear it had to be more, but the stats say otherwise)
2 rebounds
1 steal
5 assists (surprised me, I did not expect that many)

Which means in the final six minutes and overtime, Broome was:

6-7 shooting
2-3 from three point range
0-0 on free throws
0 fouls
1 turnover
0 rebounds
1 steal
1 assist

Again, not as bad as it felt (the poor defense makes it feel worse than the stats), but a poor first 34 minutes. But Broome was almost a one man wrecking crew at the end of regulation.

Did not catch the whole game, just bits and pieces. Glad the Cats were able to overcome and win a tough road contest against a team picked 9th in the conference, after losing to the team picked dead last. Things are looking up with that and all the stud recruits we have coming in. Dare I say that this was our Super Bowl? 03-lmfao Oops, I went all negative on you. How times and expectations have changed when an OT win over freaking Tulsa is a panacea. Sorry, not sorry at all.

Real-time RPI had us losing by one tonight. Pretty accurate. We are projected to lose at UCF, Temple, Houston, Memphis, and SMU. Barely scraping by at UCONN and Wichita. No gimmies next 15 games in my opinion. I would be happy with 10-5 rest of way home.

Need to find a way to 24-7 and hopefully wins over UCF and Houston. Bid would be a lock at that point and a chance at a solid seed is still in mix with a conference tourney championship.

Overall the league is top to bottom much better than before. It lacks the a couple of elite teams but this conference has zero nights with the exception of Tulane. Overall the coaching and talent are better than its been in the middle and bottom which makes every road game difficult.

Is the league better top to bottom or is it that the top has fallen with UC and WSU being the fallen top? I think more the later than the former.

The league is slightly better at the bottom and in the middle. It's not as strong at the top but last year it was particular strong at the top. I don't know that I agree it's a much better top to bottom league this year. It's a bit deeper but lacks high level teams

I think it’s a four bid league but nobody is getting better than a 4. I also could see a scenario for fifth bid if a mid pack teams wins the tournament which is more likely this year than last season.

Basically almost all road wins are going to be quality wins. Any win over Temple, UCF, Houston, and Cincinnati will be as well. We will see if Memphis, Tulsa, SMU, UConn, or USF can get enough wins to play themselves into being a quality win at home.

Great job by Cane down the stretch, Trevor Moore with his best effort yet, Keith Williams and Jarron in OT.

The one thing that has been noticeable in Broome's struggles to shoot the 3 ball this year is that he appears to have dropped his range back a step or two likely to overcome playing against bigger defenders. It may also be a product of having to shoot over guys like Williams and Cumberland in practice. The result seems to be that he's leaving a heck of a lot of shots short which are right on target. I'd love to see a recap of all his misses this year as it's often right on target, but clips the front lip and the result is a miss. That's a hard transition to make when you've been shooting from certain spots all your career, and then you move back. I think it's a big contributing factor to his shooting woes from 3. Good thing the tie shot was at the line! Great job, and i'm glad he stepped up. High risk, hi reward.
