Florida Atlantic
Thursday 7:00 in Boca Raton: FAU (10-5, 1-1 CUSA). ESPN+

Results to date: Fla Tech (98-52); UCF (80-79); Ga Southern (70-80); Towson (85-71); Incarnate Word (71-68); Palm Beach Atlantic (73-62); Fla Gulf Coast (85-68); Bethune-Cookman (70-72); Mercer (68-64); Arkansas St (71-75 OT); Fla College (76-64); Miami (55-75); Illinois (73-71 OT); UAB (50-67); MTSU (63-56).

Last game: FAU rallied fron a 15-pt 1st half deficit to best MTSU in Murfreesboro. MTSU led 27-12 with 5:27 left until HT, but FAU rallied to trail by 7. FAU opened the second half with an 11-1 run to take the lead and ran off another run of 18-4 before closing out the win. POW Anthony Adger was the only Owl in double figures scoring 33 (9-16 FG, 3-8 3s, 12-13 FT). However, the rest of the team shot only 13-50 FG, 1-15 3s and 3-6 FT. The Owls did force 22 TOs to create the extra possessions need to win.

Stats: 72.5 pts (vs 68.3); .411 FG (.297 3s); .716 FT; +5.1 RB; A/TO= 0.84

Starters (MTSU)
F Madiaw Niang (6-9 210 Fr). 15.7 min.; .266 FG (3-23 3s); .765 FT; 4.3 RB; 3.3 pts (6 starts)
F/C Aleksandar Zecevic (6-10 245 Jr). 8.8 min.; .488 FG; .556 FT; 2.6 RB; 3.2 pts (1 start)
F/C Simeon Lepichev (6-9 225 Sr). 23.5 min.; .456 FG (2-11 3s); .556 FT; 5.7 RB; 4.9 pts (4 starts)
G Anthony Adger (6-1 170 Sr). 30.6 min.; .402 FG (44-120 3s); .810 FT; 3.5 RB; 1.2 steals; 16.2 pts
G Michael Forrest (6-0 170 Fr). 26.3 min.; .324 FG (15-61 3s); .619 FT; 2.6 RB; 3.2 assists; 1.3 steals; 6.7 pts (11 starts)

Bench
F Xavier Stapleton (6-7 205 Sr). 23.4 min.; .416 FG (14-49 3s); .778 FT; 5.6 RB; 10.6 pts (8 games, 7 starts)
F/C Karlis Silins (6-11 240 Fr). 16.3 min.; .667 FG (4-8 3s); .536 FT; 2.5 RB; 5.8 pts (11 starts)
G Richardson Maitre (6-3 180 So). 20.4 min.; .278 FG (6-28 3s); .800 FT; 3.5 RB; 2.7 assists; 4.1 pts (4 starts)
G Cedric Jackson (6-3 180 Jr). 8.5 min.; .182 FG (3-24 3s); .500 FT; 1.0 RB; 1.4 pts

Very big team that is still looking for optimal player rotations, integrating 11 new players on the roster this year. Team is strong on the boards, but struggles from the perimeter (yet takes 27.8 3s/g). Game flow can be an issue…FAU causes 15.3 TOs/g while committing 14.8. Opponents only hit 29% 3s. FAU is 5-0 in Boca Raton. Leading scorer 6-7 forward Jailyn Ingram (.557 FG, 8.2 RB, 16.9 pts) tore his ACL and will miss the remainder of the season

After a big win this Saturday, I am just hoping for a W anyway we can get one.

Let's spot them a double digit first half lead. We seem to play lights out once that happens.

Illinois is 4-11 and one of the worst power-conference teams in the country. Florida Atlantic's highlight win is the one against UCF, which is 12-2 and in most NCAA brackets as of today. Weird to think they can beat UCF but lose to Bethune-Cookman and have more trouble with Florida College and Palm Beach Atlantic than a D1 mid-major ever should.

Fun fact: ODU averages more than 6,000 fans a game. Florida Atlantic and FIU, Saturday's opponent, combined average less than 2,000.

EDIT: I harshly judged Illinois. The record is still rank, but the Illini had a strong SOS and played some good teams competitively. I stand by UCF being the signature win but Illinois is not one of the worst power teams in the land.

FAU is a decent team. It will not be an easy win on the road.

RE: Florida Atlantic
I'll agree that UCF is the better win. I highlighted the Illinois game partly due to the P-5 label, but also because the game was played in CHampaigne in front of 12500 people. FAU outrebounded Illinois 51-38 and had them jacking up 3s (9-38). It also came after Ingram tore his ACL.

ODU's interior players will have to contribute and we will need to win the TO margin and turn them into extra possessions and ultimately points. I think JJ knows that Adger is their main threat (note to JJ- don't foul him).

If we play well, we should win, but neither of the F_Us look like cakewalks this year.

JJ needs to play Kithcart early to bring the energy. Everyone knows there will be zero energy or atmosphere in the building so it needs to be manufactured.

So Kithcart has the talent, but inconsistent.

Trying to find mins for Kalu; particularly at the 4 and moving BJ to the 3 to make up for some of Godwins mins.

He hasn't played enough to be consistent. Give him the minutes. We need what he is capable of bringing, and now is the time to take your lumps (if there are any to be taken). If this is a tournament team, it will require the growth of Kithcart and Kalu into key pieces.

They want to give him the minutes, he just needs to make sure he is doing ALL of the right things.

Neither team is a pushover, these games could be much tougher than people expect.

Yes they can if we leave them open and don't play any help defense. It looks they have a couple of matchup problems for us.
