RE: New Coach Discussion
This may sound crazy but I want Jordan Lynch.
Yes he does not have a lot of experience but he is a former alum and hero, has college and head coaching experience, was a great recruiter when he was here, knows the QB position better then anyone, has been a winning head coach in high school, is very personable and well liked by players.
IF the argument is he is not ready to be an HC yet, all other candidates also have NEVER been HC's (and Jordan actually has in High School), so how are they more qualified? Sometimes you have to take a chance, if we are going to take a chance on someone who is inexperienced like all the coaches mentioned, I say it should be Jordan Lynch.

RE: New Coach Discussion
So Carey's 1st amendment of his contract (from December 2013) says his buyout if he leaves before June 30, 2019 is $100,000. However, who knows what his 2nd (which was made in December of 2017) and now 3rd amendments (which was made in December 2018) to his contact stipulate.

The buyout is $300k. This has already been established.

Wisconsin (2011–2013)Assistant head coach, running backs coach, recruiting coord.
Baltimore Ravens (2014–present)Running backs coach
Canada has had lots of ups and downs..6 jobs in the last 8 years. As for Kane, he worked for Carey for 4 seasons, the team would be familiar with him, he did build the defense...but he did work for Carey for 4 seasons.
Heh, while the idea of getting an NIU football player and alumnus to be our head coach is appealing, he's mostly been a running backs coach. We need someone who has strong and well-rounded offensive coaching experience because that side of the ball needs a lot of work.
It would also be nice to get some assistant coaches who recruit the south. We've gotten away from Florida and Texas and need to find some people that can recruit there. We need the speed that we got with Martel Moore, TLL, Akeem Daniels, etc.
Hammock certainly has better credentials than PJ Fleck before becoming HC at WMU:
PJ
2006 Ohio State (GA)
2007–2008 Northern Illinois (WR)
2009 Northern Illinois (WR/RC)
2010–2011 Rutgers (WR)
2012 Tampa Bay Buccaneers (WR)
Is anyone familiar with Hammock's personality though? PJ Fleck can recruit and has an exciting personality that appeals to the young generation. Hammock has been a position coach for a very long time and no one has given him a head coaching gig, why is that? Does he not want to be a head coach? He's also been out of college coaching for a while, so how good are his recruiting connections right now?
He did a lot of recruiting when at Wisconsin
https://n.rivals.com/news/rivals-com-top...rs-big-ten
Thomas Hammock, Wisconsin
There were several coaches who overcame severe obstacles during the 2013 recruiting process, and one of those was Hammock. Wisconsin's recruiting coordinator under Bret Bielema, Hammock stayed in Madison after Bielema bolted to Arkansas. He guided the Badgers commitments through the transition, losing only a couple of players from a class that was ranked 23rd nationally when Bielema left. Hammock was personally responsible for landing Wisconsin's biggest individual pick-up of the class, four-star running back Corey Clement out of New Jersey. Other wins on Hammock's résumé included three-star offensive tackle Jack Keeler, three-star offensive guard Matt Miller and three-star wide receiver Rob Wheelwright.

Frazier screwed that one up. You give a coach five more years in extensions and only require a $300k buyout? He must have thought Rod Carey was never going anywhere.

Instead of Wisconsin OC, why not someone who went to 3 Rose Bowls at Wisconsin?

It only makes sense to increase the buyout when you give a coach five more years and increase his pay.
Woohoo, we get a 1-for-1 with Temple. How exciting...
May be why Temple wanted him, he was a cheap buyout.

You do realize Temple has received $6-7mm in buyouts from two coaches just this offseason? They can afford any G5 coaches buyout with money leftover easily.
Maybe, JUST MAYBE, they wanted Carey because he is a good coach who brings stability to a program?

If it's not Canada, Kane, or Hammock then I would say yes. Take a chance on JL.

You think Rod and his agent would agree to a buyout over $1M? No chance.

Or maybe they wanted all the extra money leftover to hire a really good coaching staff to put around Carey. Carey needs all the help he can get with the offense. He showed he lacks a lot on that side of the ball.
