Clemson beat ND by 27 and beat Alabama by 28. :)

Congrats to the Tigers.

Look guys the only thing that matters after tonight is that Clemson will be National Champions. Every body else lost!

Also Syracuse should leapfrog those three loss SEC teams like Kentucky, LSU and Florida, also other three/four loss teams like Michigan, Texas, Washington and Penn State.

Syracuse should finish no lower than 12. No one gave Clemson a tougher game than they did.

A&M lost 28-26 when they missed a 2 point conversion in the last minute. They also outgained Clemson by 100 yards, but had 2 more turnovers.

TAMU was at home. Cuse did it at Death Valley and led Clemson until the last minute.

Yes, with Trevor Lawrence out of the game in the 2nd quarter.

And Cuse was leading at the time when our safety put him out. So?

I thought Clemson would win in a shootout. I predicted 41-38 in the P5 thread. But when you have offenses as potent as this, you can get blowouts between close teams. One gets ahead and the other presses too hard or gives up.

While watching the first half, it looked to me like Alabama would pull away in the second half, just like Clemson actually did. These two teams were much closer than the final score would indicate. The difference, IMO, was that Bama's play calling played right into the strength of Clemson's D once they got into a goal to go situation.

The Tigers are a little shaky on the back end of their defense, and in the open field that meant Bama could move downfield quickly. But with a short field, Clemson's superior defensive line was more of a factor. Bama tried to power the ball inside too often, coming away with no points several times inside the ten. Play action passes or QB keepers to the outside might have kept the score close deep into the fourth quarter. But once Bama had to play catch up, they had to take risks that opened the gap wide.

There is no doubt in my mind these were the two best teams this year. Tons of NFL talent on both sides of the ball for both teams.

And hate to tell you- but the BCS formula in ALL 5 years would have had these EXACT same seeds in each and every year.

Which is why we need to quit "picking" all the teams and put teams in because they earned it by winning their conference.

Uh, Alabama last year was in the top 4 in the ratings even not winning their conference. Sorry. TV is never going to allow it to not be just top 4 teams. They have no interest in it being just top 4 champions. Absolutlely none. And frankly right now, I don't know with the current tv contracts if they could change it to just champions.

RE: CFP National Championship Game: Clemson vs Alabama
I think being challenged only once all season may have hurt Alabama. They have a lot of young players. Also, they came out more emotional than Alabama usually does. When you are emotional and fall behind that emotion can be a problem. You press and take gambles and that deficit gets bigger and bigger.

You're missing the point.
That's why we need 8 with the 5 conference champs. Minimize the impact of "picking" teams.

No. TV doesn't want any part of a playoff that doesn't include the perceived best teams. Remember the year that the system was put in place- 2011- would have had #10 Wisconsin included instead of #2 Alabama. Sorry, but that is a non-starter for TV.

If they picked the P5 champs (P6 at the time) and an autobid for the best G5 while filling any remaining slots with at-large teams you’d have had Bama as an at large.

P5(6) Champs
LSU (13-0)
OkSt (11-1)
Oregon (11-2)
Clemson (10-3)
Wisconsin (11-2)
West Virginia (9-3)

G5- Boise State (11-1)

At Large- Alabama (11-1)

If you put a cap on how many losses a Power conference champ had at 2 in order to receive an at-large bid you could swap out WV and Clemson for 11-1 Stanford or 10-2 Arkansas.

Either way Bama is in.

if it's 8. IF it stays at 4, it has to stay best 4 teams period.

CFB decides what the playoff setup is, not the networks. Of course, to change the contract Early, they'd have to be kosher with things that more $$ will be coming in altogether, which can be had. They're not going to be a part of rankings at all, tho. That's obvious.

Quote:That's why we need 8 with the 5 conference champs. Minimize the impact of "picking" teams.

Well, ranking teams. TV stations don't pick them, despite the fear above - lol.

I would say Up To the Top 6 Conf Champs get into the 8-team playoff, if ranked at a certain level (13?) or higher. Why? Helps both ratings + avoids disaster. You give Cinderella (G5) about a 50% chance of making it. You also AVOID a P5 Champ from Not Getting an auto-bid if you limited it to 5 Conf Champs, if a G5 Champ is rated higher than they are (as was this year).

Some years you'll only get 5, usually occurring when the Top G5 Champ that would make the 6th Conf Champ auto-bid doesn't, because they're ranked below #13. But half the years you'll get 6.

So basically 2-3 at-larges every year (Notre Dame some years; 2nd place SEC almost every time; possibly another 2nd place P5 team if Top G5 isn't ranked high enough).

lol... I'd be pretty damn sure that the contract has it written in that it's the top 4 teams. Not top 4 conference champions.

If, by CFB, you mean the NCAA, then no they don't. The NCAA has no say in it at all. The playoff setup was and is decided by the 130 schools, the NY6 bowls and ESPN. To assume ESPN has no say in this, despite paying megabucks for the product, is just crazy talk.
