Kent State vs. Bowling Green State University
The Flashes open MAC play at home this evening against the BG Falcons. Bowling Green is 8-5 on the season and winless on the road. This includes L's at Saint John's, VCU, Hartford, Cleveland State and Detroit Mercy.

Their most recent win was over 7-9 Drexel. BG appears to be your run of the mill, middle to bottom of the standings MAC team. Two things about that; Number one, if that is true then this is a home game the Flashes need to grab. Number two, many fans still need to be convinced that the same can't be said of KSU.

As for personnel, 6'4 sophomore guard Justin Turner is the man for the BG. He averages 18 points on 49% shooting. He also leads the team in steals and assists. Interesting stat, he is shooting just over 60% from the FT line. That is not a good situation for the guy with the ball in his hands late in games.

In the frontcourt, 6'10 240 pound senior Demajeo Wiggins averages 15 points and 12 rebounds per game.

Kent State will also have to keep an eye on 6'2 shooting guard Dylan Frye and 6'6 wing Antwon Lillard. I want to believe it this season. I have been impressed by wins at Oregon State and Vanderbilt along with some gritty wins mixed in over decent competition. The depth of the roster is my concern. Here's to a KSU, KO over the school with the coolest fight song in the MAC.

Kent State 76
Bowling Green 68
After a lackluster first half, the Flashes get hot!

BG always plays us close and gives us fits. Won't be easy.

Agree 100%. I remember watching BG's 2-3 Zone give a pretty good Kent State teams fits. BG was not very talented. I remember being at Anderson arena the night Q had a tummy ache. I remember making a trip to the Stroh Center watching a darn good KSU backcourt miss dozens of shots. This is all around the time when Anderson was dubbed the house of horrors.

Peterson is unplayable. Anyone can get 3 rebounds a game and airball a couple of 3's. Williamson isn't much better. Would like to see extended Duling at this point.

RE: Kent State vs. Bowling Green State University
This is the first time I've left a game early out of frustration. I could not believe this game was THIS ugly. The offense has not looked this sloppy. The weak rebounding made Wiggins look too good against Whittington. Looking at the rest of the division we need to be better than this. Despite our 2 P5 wins out non-conf was not that competitive.
At least I could go to Barflyy and kill aliens and drag race to deal with frustration.

Worst game of year by far — shooting, rebounding and especially defense.

Walker seemed very disengaged.

RE: Kent State vs. Bowling Green State University
Didn't get to watch the game live, but watched the replay. Wow, that was ugly. A few thoughts...

Something I've been kind of worried about came to surface tonight. We've been winning a lot of close games and part of why we're keeping them close up until the end is Walker. So what happens when he starts to regress to the norm a little bit? MAC teams know him well and will be all over him so it's not realistic to believe he's going to continue to score 25 ppg while shooting well over 50% from 3. It's crucial that the other guards knock down open shots to keep defenses at least a little bit honest on Walker.

It's frustrating that Peterson seemingly hasn't made any strides in year three yet Gholston or Harris aren't able to take minutes from him. I assume it's mostly for defensive reasons as Peterson is a solid perimeter defender... but some offense from those minutes would be nice.

The one positive from tonight, nice game by Roberts. He's got a bright future. It's kind of amusing that Elton said Kent needs more from the bench and specifically called out Roberts in that article the other day. Well Elton, we got a lot more scoring from Roberts... and how did that work out for us?

I thought the rebounding was fine actually. BG is a great rebounding team and we matched them with 12 offensive rebounds. They beat us 20-26 on defensive rebounds but we shot 38.7% to their 50.7% for the game, so there were a lot more defensive rebounds available for them.

On my long drive home from the game last night I keep asking myself why I still do this, subject myself to this, after 55 years. I had no answer for myself.

RE: Kent State vs. Bowling Green State University
Bowling Green scored 86 points against Kent State last night on the Golden Flashes' home court.

Justin Turner was 9-14, including 2-2 from three point land.
Antwon Lillard was 5-7, including 3-4 from three point land.
The big man was 8 - 14 which I figure KSU is going to have to live with this season.

But back to the first two guys. Were Kent defenders getting out on these shooters or were they just lightning hot? If this team doesn't guard the perimeter like their hair is on fire, I fear that many MAC teams will put up similar offensive numbers.

My concern is the rest of the MAC. Buffalo and Akron had huge non-conf seasons. Now we can't beat BG. Look, we beat Vandy and Orgeon State. Yes they are in P5 conferences, but still have not beat anyone good. Plus the loss to Liberty and wins over other weak schools. We used to be the team that brought the MAC's PRI up. Now our schedule is weak and we can't even run with BG.

Good Record-Courier story on how bad they were. “Worst loss I can remember being a part of,” Senderoff said.

Walker will start in the future.

After a poor performance beating division 3 Oberlin and the girl singing the National Anthem in several keys, I knew it was not going to be a good night.......

That was an interesting version of the national anthem. Right up there with the kid that played it on the guitar quite a few years ago.

I think the loss of Pippen is huge -but the bottom line is that bad home court losses and 0.500 in MAC play is all to frequent under Sendy

Yes not having Pippen is really going to show in the next 17 games. Every single MAC game is like a brutally physical street fight. It’s not like playing Shawnee State or Oberlin. I fear we have far too many soft players to survive those battles.

Having been in her situation I'm guessing she had a cold. She tried lowering the octave to just make it through the song. That didn't work well, so she lost the key she was in. After that it is survival mode. I'd rather someone try and fail than add so much extra garbage to the song and makes it all about themselves.

I remember the guy with the guitar.... trying to be the next Jimmy Hendrix. LOL That was totally aweful.
