RE: Transfers
To me, the decision to release or retain Wilder will be tied to how much new revenue comes in through that brand new stadium. What the donor population says will probably drive it and in that first year, it may not have a whole lot to do with on-field results during 2019. To me, it is still hard to believe he could even recruit FBS talent to the old stadium.
That might be hard to hear for many that are disgruntled on these here boards though. Lol.

RE: Transfers
ITs way too early at this point. We don't know what we have at QB and we haven't heard all the comings and goings yet.
Without in depth research, MTSU has to replace 15 year QB in Stockstill. Marshall loses Brady and some defensive guys (think they will be strong). Does Morgan come back for FIU? UAB loses a lot. FAU is a revolving door.
We gotta survive the opening 7 games, which appears it will be a bloodbath. Somehow need to win at least 2-3 of those game. (Norfolk State likely) Then win at least 3 of the 4 home games in a row.

RE: Transfers
We lost a ton of starters. It will be hard to replace them with JUCO transfers or redshirt freshman. I hope we have some talent in the development pipeline especially at OL and across the entire Defense. The recruiting rankings for the last 3 classes were not very good. This all points to a downward trend in talent. Now taking a big picture look at the teams we play shows an increase in quality of our opponents. I would expect realistically a 3 to 4 win season again. For BW to replace coaches in this scenario is not a good position because many coaches understand where BW is sitting right now.

I usually disagree with you, but you hit the nail on the head here. We are headed for disaster.

Unfortunately this will most likely be the case. ODU will not buyout the remainder of BW's contract and will not grant a contract extension (rightfully so). The catch 22 is that in order to get better (and get better recruits) you'll need better coaches/recruiters, along with the kids knowledge of coaching stability within the program. BUT, it'll be difficult to sell coming to work for a program which, in all likelihood, is in a 24-month countdown.

In 2 more years of Bobby Wilders FCS coaching we will find out what is beneath rock-bottom.

Sorry about that but I have been right on point regarding ODU football and especially recruiting for the last 4 years. You could see it happening. I am always trying to look at things objectively and not from a biased fan perspective. I hope BW can secure some decent coaches and can turn around the direction of our recruiting. Next year will be a disaster, if we don't win 3 or more games. That is the only way I can see BW getting the boot. Expectations are not high for next year like they were at the start of this year. I just don't see how this current state of the program can be easily and quickly turned around. JUCO and transfers are likely the best option and the new stadium can help. I find it interesting we have not heard one word on potential coaches or hires. I realize generally it will be after January 1st.

Maybe just one year.
This frenzy of wholesale coaching and player changes for 2019 tells me that the countdown could be 12 months.
The five year contract extension executed after the 10-3 2016 season goes through the 2021 season. I do not believe that he gets three more seasons of 2018-like results, or even one.

It is alarming to say the least, but if I were a coordinator on the rise or a head coach that was just fired, I would never put myself at risk with this situation.

Yep. Tough situation to be in, and just one more reason why I hate the "lets give him one more year mentality. If you think it might be over, it should just be over, and if you are committed then extend the coach to show the commitment needed to hire assistants and recruit players. Playing this middle ground doesn't do anything but let the program rot.

You're right, but extending the coach's contract at this point is the wrong move. And it sounds like we cant afford the buy out to let him go. Wood got us in this situation by getting over excited when BW won the Bahamas Bowl. Unless these Jucos are all-world, next year could be very bad. At least Wood has a year to work on getting the next guy if necessary. He should have a very good short list by November. I wish we could do like JMU did, and steal a coach from within the conference. The guy at FIU is doing an admirable job. Id love to see what he could do with our new stadium and fan support. Never happen though.

RE: Transfers
I know this discussion is mainly focused on football, but does anybody know if A.J. Oliver is eligible to play this season for the basketball team? ODU sports released this today:
http://www.odusports.com/ViewArticle.dbm...=211785391
It says he'll have 3 years of eligibility after redshirting the 2016-17 season and playing the 2017-18 season. I thought you had 5 years to play 4? If that's still the case, wouldn't he be eligible immediately to get the 3 years in?

Without a waiver he won’t be eligible until the end of the fall semester.
Without a waiver:
He can play in Spring 2020, so he would have 2.5 years.
With a waiver:
He can play in fall 2019, so he would have 3 years

He probably knew or at least believed that he wouldn’t. Can’t imagine his departure and BL’s departure happened in vacuums.

From reliable sources, the QB battle next year is Smartt v. Williams. They still have hope for Williams. Wolff will need a year of development.
