Most Beautiful Campuses in Country
UC in at #5 by Travel & Leisure Magazine.

A decades-long renewal topping $1 billion is paying dividends for Cincy, which has cultivated a strikingly modern look—and proven that “it doesn’t need ivy-covered brick walls” to be beautiful, as UC Magazine put it.

Notable architects Michael Graves, Charles Gwathmey, Frank Gehry, and Peter Eisenman have each made their mark on the campus, whose Main Street leads to the prow-shaped Steger Student Life Center and the Tangeman University Center, which, in 2005, dramatically repositioned the original clock tower atop a skylight in a 90-foot atrium.

Totally agree. We'll take all of the positive press we get.

Good thing they didn't do this survey in the mid 80's.

I don't think they'd have been too impressed by the big hole in front of the field house, walking past the lovely physical plant and feeling some sort of mystery substance dropping on you or taking in a baseball game on portable aluminum bleachers that were just thrown in there at cockeyed angles.

It only cost a billion to redo the campus. I wish UC could buy the rest of Burnet Woods. Today, Burnet is about 90 acres, but it was 170 acres when first established in the 1870s by two wealthy landowners, William Groesbeck and Robert Burnet, and leased to the city as parkland. Cincinnati bought a lot of it, but so did the University of Cincinnati, which develop it into its college campus.

Put in a 9 hole golf course, etc.

Me too, but Cincinnati people are old Germans with long memories. Someone said way back (when well to do people lived around the woods) that no more should be sold to the University, so that's how it must always be.

Many of those old Germans won't admit that UC is a great asset to Cincinnati and Hamilton County.

Put the biergarten next to the existing band stand. Love your thinking!

RE: Most Beautiful Campuses in Country
UC's campus has improved by leaps and bounds, but I'll never understand putting trailers at our front door where Wilson Auditorium stood. The east side of 5/3 with the decaying remains of Sawyer and whatever dorm that is desolate and ugly - certainly not worthy of nation's most beautiful campus.

Still work to be done.

I also wonder about long-term planning. They bulldozed the huge parking lot, hired a big name like Hargreaves (?) and paid them a lot of money to landscape design the green area...then bulldoze about a third of it for a brand new business building.

Amen.

Improve on what's there, but don't bulldoze it. I like the biergarten idea.

so did they clean that up? When I was a student it always seemed like that was where you went if you wanted to get raped, mugged, drugs, etc.

I drive through Burnett occasionally these days. Doesn't seem to get used for much of anything, as far as parks go.

A Biergarten might change that. Hofbrau probably should have been built there.
