Nice to see Washburn and Clark both score.

For anyone who didn't watch, we played man to man the entire game. Knight could have scored 50 if we played him at the low post all game. Tony was trying to run the offense and see who wanted to play defense. If we would have played zone and trapped it would have been a totally different score. Thornton Scott was 0-6 from three and never even thought about stopping.

Tony's post game said it all. We have got to get better defensively

It was obvious who was giving an effort on defense and who wasn't. Second half minutes played will give you a clue (other than Loewe who fouled out).

RE: William Peace
Sad defensive performance by the Tribe in the first half as Tony stated.

Think Coach needs to rethink his rotation and get Blair into the game sooner as IMO he currently is a better player than Harvey. Lowe played better than Scott but this team did not provide a test.

Nathan missing 4 straight FT is lack of concentration and his defense was just as bad as the rest of the team. Do think they executed the O better and nice that everybody scored.

Next up UVA on Saturday for 2pm tip off.

Can't put much stock in this game as team has had only two full practices since last game with exams ruling the roost...two more practices were "catch-as-catch-can" affairs with several players missing each of these due to exams and/or study commitments.

Attendance was a surprisingly good 3140...many more for a meaningless game during exam period than anyone would have expected. Lots of families with kids at the game...these Saturday 4 PM games bring out families.

RE: William Peace
From where I sat, I observed the following:

That was an enjoyable way to spend a Sunday afternoon.

Peace came to play; when #24 got foul #4 and the tech (foul #5), that was it. No quit in that team. Liked their coach's demeanor. I'd watch that team come to the Hall anytime. On their website, game was listed as an exhibition.

I'm waiting for Charlton Heston (aka Tony Shaver) to rearrange the sheik's chariot-racing team so that they all pull together. The growing pains associated with the 2018-2019 version of men's hoops are something else. The individual talent level is wonderful; just waiting for it to mesh.

Cheerleaders were there, dance team was there, ... no pep band.

Final note. Nova played Kansas on Saturday. Butler played Indiana. Purdue played Notre Dame. W&M played a D-3 school. All you need to know about the different universe that the Tribe is trying to compete in. And I'm not being critical of the Tribe - the D-3 game is absolutely the way to go given the academic nature of the school.

I'm starting to become a little more pessimistic about this team. I'm not concerned about the results thus far (although allowing a D-III team to drop 46 on you in a half is pretty remarkable) but I am concerned that Tony doesn't seem able to meet his own stated goals.

It seems like every post game, he's calling out players for not having the defensive intensity he expects. It's obviously worrying him, so it worries me too. And I would have thought that through this early part of the schedule, he could have freely used the bench to incentivize intensity.

I'm not really criticizing because it has to be difficult to take our defensive effort from olé to ok in one year, but I don't hear coach expressing much optimism.

Hoping to be wrong!

Got Ribe!

Just got back into town and had a chance to look at the highlights. The crowd looked a little skimpy for the announced total of 3140. For those at the game, did it look that big or perhaps we are changing the way we count attendance?
