Source: Temple's Geoff Collins has emerged as the leading candidate at Georgia Tech. No offer has been made yet. But he was in Atlanta on Thursday, met with Tech officials and they've indicated he's the favorite. A deal could happen as soon as tonight.

Temple might be the team I hate most in the AAC lately... they lose OOC games to D III opponents and local high schools, then somehow find a way to beat us in conference play every year. This year it took grossly incompetent officiating, but we still have 4 straight losses to those guys! They are simply a bizarre and infuriating team.

Yes just like the old SLU basketball teams in CUSA. Suck terribly OOC then finally.get their sh*t together in conference play. Also play a style that allows them to lose to teams they shouldn't but sometimes beat teams they shouldn't.

AAC is the breeding ground for this.

RE: 2018/2019 College Football Coaching Carousel
I guess there's a bright side to this - at least UC isn't losing their coaches to any old P5 team like Baylor, GaTech and Arkansas. Notre Dame, MichSt and Tennessee are at least (historical) brand names. I know these teams have had their good times also but that was an anomaly to their recent, past 20 year, history. It tells me that a step up from UC's program, facilities and support programs is not any old P5. It is a "brand"/"blue chip" one. I think that is the athletic department's goal. I think UCF sees it that way as well, and maybe USF also. It isn't worth trying to rebuild a bottom or mid level P5 from UC, but rebuilding a team where the name recruits itself and they have a solid department behind them is the next step above us. It will all be debunked when Fickell leaves for Boston College or Pitt but, whatever. This is my observation as of now. 03-wink

I didn't realize it until i was reading the local paper down here - the AJC - but apparently Geoff has coached at Tech before. He recruited quite well...apparently...during that stint.

Hearing he will be bringing in Bobby Petrino as OC. They are also considering Larry Eustachy for hoops.

I wonder how long Jim Harbaugh's leash is with Michigan? Consider his record against the following:

3-1 Penn State
2-2 Michigan State
0-1 Notre Dame
0-4 Ohio State
1-2 Bowls
0 Conference Championships

Overall, he has done better than the two previous head coaches: Rich Rod and Brady Hoke. Michigan plays Florida in the Peach Bowl so that may factor in his future as well. I have a feeling his leash is short regardless but he'll get one more year to try and beat Ohio State and play in the conference championship now that Urban is retiring.

He will jump back to the NFL before getting fired. If he senses an end is near, he will leave.

What he has done at North Texas has been pretty astonishing considering they have only had four winning seasons since 1998 before he came, and he has them on back to back 9-winners with a chance at 10 this season. Great offensive mind (worked under Rich Rod and Leach), and wouldn't be shocked to see him head to Tech.

Good call. Looks like Littrell was a finalist, maybe even the favorite, for the Kansas St job, but dropped out. Seems strange at first, but considering the way coaches not named Snyder fare at K St., maybe not. Sounds like Littrell has got quite a returning team at NT St. and might be in line for something better next year.

Names supposedly in play right now are N. Dakota St.'s Klieman, Troy's Neal Brown and of course an AAC candidate: Memphis' Norvell.

I'd take either of them. A guy who can't beat a ranked team, or a guy who UC routinely beat the crap out of no matter how much talent he had.

Not a head coaching hire but Memphis is losing their offensive coordinator and QB coach, Kenny Dillingham, to the same spot at Auburn.

The really shocking news is that Malzahn is going back to calling plays. Also with Malzahn being on the hot seat, it's an interesting move by Dillingham.

Meanwhile Memphis is also losing its DC, Chris Ball, to the N Arizona HC job. Not that there are a lot of jobs for him to go to, but Memphis HC Norvell is insisting he's staying put.

I posted this in another thread, but I think Butch has to rehabilitate himself in the eyes of the ADs before a school takes a chance on him as a head coach. He's still a relatively young man (50)-- probably will take him another 2-3 years before he can get a HC job.
