Now we know what it takes against the best....
Okay guys, we've seen about the best that college hoops is about now. Are we all in? This is for the players and the staff. You've seen what it takes to play the game the way it's played at the highest level so what needs to be done to get this team to be their best? In the 2nd half, UNC extended their defense and pushed our offense out to 40 feet. Yes, they have length and athletic ability big time but there has to be a way to deal with pressure better.

We've seen this in the UNCG game and Stanford as well. There needs to be a way to advance the ball and make them pay AND the Hawks need to employ similar ball pressure on opponents. I get that it's personnel often times but it's not just the passer, it's the rest of the team being smart enough to make it easier on the PG too. You can get through presses with smart, efficient ball movement far easier than to force something. Wofford is a perfect example of how to play tough, they are tough. When you look at NCAA resume, UNCW is far superior but when you see them play, it's like, "Wow, they are in them". Not sure why they don't get to the Dance more. Hawks just need to toughen up on both ends.

Getting to the defense, well UNCW needs to be there on the catch, but even better, fighting over on ball screens to make it difficult on the catch, if possible like UNC did-and they have prima donnas. Yes, easy for me to say but you have to play guys that are willing to fight and are athletic enough to get this done. Bottom line, when you play a UNC you have to at the VERY least out-work them and I didn't see that.

Plenty of games to play and this is a solid team or at the very least has good talent. The record means nothing to me. It's about getting tougher on both ends. The offense will take care of itself but the toughness and defense is what I look at. If this team wants to look back at this year and feel good, they will have to be tougher on both ends. And, I think that they have the personnel to get things done eventually. Best of luck! I'll pull for you regardless!!

I like what we've added to the team so far. Been a long time since we've had such production at the point. We are still missing the Flemming/Bryce type players. And we may have one coming in next year. Guys that are long that can stretch the floor and use that length to defend. I think Gadsden and Estime will only get better. And Gadsden has the prettiest shot I've seen in a long time. When he is hitting, it's so smooth and nothing but net.

You don't feel like Jordan gave us production at the point? I do love some Gadson....

As good as Talley was (quite good actually), Toews’ ceiling is a bit higher. IMO, if you compare their freshman seasons, Toews is already a step or two ahead.

I agree about Towes, but Talley's Sr year was just last year and it was pretty damn good

It was pretty much just Jordan. Toews has some bit of backup when he sits. We are deeper at point.

RE: Now we know what it takes against the best....
We're a third of the way through the season and I think we've seen enough positives to be encouraged for the upcoming road trip and conference play. Yes, the defense is a concern but I think they have some good defenders on this team and it will be better going forward. Our starting lineup should be Toews, Gasden, Estime, Cylla, Cacok. Gasden and Estime are our two best defenders as well as our two best shooters, the energy they provide every time they step on the court has earned them the right to start. Ty Taylor and Jaylen Fornes have been somewhat of a disappointment this season IMO. Both provide solid offense in spurts but they seem to be just as inconsistent as they were last year. I see them being a better fit coming off the bench. O'Connell brings great energy and is a perfect fit backing up DC15. I also like what I've seen from Jaylen Sims, there should be some minutes available in the rotation to get him the experience he needs to be a really good player in the future. It's apparent to me that this team is a lot better than they were last season, though the results haven't really showed it yet. C.B. needs that first signature win to get the fanbase excited about this team and prove to us that what he's doing is working. It would be great if that could be on the road against Top 25 Furman. WINGS UP!

Does any one know the last time we beat a Top 25 team?

Good question. You should ask Riley to research. We haven't had many opportunities against top 25 ranked opponents

I think they were ranked 12 at one time. But #16 would fit right into the 4 seed.

I want to say my freshman year (December 2001) we beat Minnesota at their place. I believe they were ranked or had just been ranked. That’s the only top 25 regular season win I can recall.
