So... I’m guessing no one sees Mike MacIntyre as a viable candidate. He certainly fits the LU mission.

I'm liking Drinkwitz and Streeter. Drinkwitz has a great resume with stops at Boise State, Auburn, and NC State.

I'm not liking Briles or Freeze. PR nightmares waiting to happen.

Also, can anyone tell me why they like Curt Cignetti (Elon HC) as a HC candidate? His record at Elon is so-so and he has two loses in the first round of the FCS playoffs.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Curt_Cignetti

This is why: (it would be like a coach turning one of the worst programs into a legitimate FBS team similar to Purdue)

“Cignetti’s first Elon squad was one for the record books, as the Phoenix won eight games in a row after an opening season loss to MAC Champion Toledo. It was remarkable considering the Phoenix had a 4–20 conference record and suffered through six straight losing seasons prior to Cignetti’s arrival. The Phoenix were ranked as high as 6th nationally, played James Madison for the conference championship and were selected for the NCAA Playoffs for the first time since 2009. Cignetti was rewarded by being named CAA coach of the year and was a finalist for the Eddie Robinson National Coach of the Year. In 2018, Cignetti led the Phoenix to a 27-24 win over James Madison, ending JMU's 22-game CAA Football winning streak and then FCS-best 19-game home winning streak. The win marked Elon's first over a top-five FCS opponent.[2] The Phoenix earned back to back NCAA playoff appearances for the first time in program history.“

Thanks. Didn't know that Elon was a tough place to win. This makes more sense now.

Keep an eye on these candidates during Liberty's football coaching search (via The News & Advance).

He reminds me a lot of Mike Houston that was at JMU. Mike had a lot of success at a lower level then moved up and made The Citadel a FCS contender before leaving for JMU. We all know how that worked out.

That was some emotional retirement speech. Wish you the best in your search.

This is my personal take but I think he was emotional because he didn’t want to retire. I think there was an extension offered but he had to make a change at DC. Gill is loyal and RM and TG are tied at the hip. So ultimately he said he wouldn’t fire him so they moved on and this was to save face.

After watching this, I'm guessing Freeze is the top candidate. This was recorded in January 2018.

I am reading Twitter and the chatter is making me think Freeze is our top target and that he'll take the job. Nothing concrete but "whispers" and such.

It’s like when we hired Ian they knew what they were doing a long time ago.

Disappointing if true. I don't question his ability to coach but we already have enough of a perception problem and lots of baggage with McCaw.

People want to say we have enough money that we could hire anyone yet we go bargain shopping by hiring people we normally couldn't because they are so toxic that nobody else wants them.

Quit trying to hire our former coaches! (Drinkwitz went 6-1 in 7 games as OC here in 2013)

If I was running a school and had the choice between Drinkwitz and Freeze, I'd choose Drinkwitz every time.

Finder's keepers! We can't help it that you let him get away and we are the ones with the head coach opening, not you guys. Besides, shouldn't you guys be enjoying a bowl trip right now? Would be nice for us!

ASOR is strongly suggesting that it's Hugh Freeze.

Wow. I guess "win at all costs" brings you to this. Remember, money is the root of all evil. Does Jr have to much?

ODU, the LOVE of money is the root of all evil (I Timothy 6:10), not money itself.
