MCC Observations
Here are Buffalo's possessions for the game, in order:
13 plays, 94 yards, TD
11 plays, 94 yards, TD
9 plays, 75 yards, TD
8 plays, 70 yards, Field Goal
8 plays, 75 yards, TD
3 plays, -4 yards, Punt
6 plays, 0 yards, Punt
4 plays, 3 yards, Punt
5 plays, 16 yards, Punt
6 plays, -9 yards, Punt
6 plays, 34 yards, Turn over on downs

I couldn't believe what I was seeing during those first five possessions. But then it was like our defense flipped a switch, pitching a shutout the rest of the way.

Meanwhile our offense did the opposite. Here are their second half possessions:
7 plays, 16 yards, Punt
1 play, 0 yards, Interception
5 plays, 34 yards, TD to Brown
4 plays, 63 yards, TD to Tears
6 plays, 17 yards, Punt
8 plays, 70 yards, TD to Brown

Some clutch plays on that last drive included the screen to Marcus Jones on 3rd and ten that picked up the first with help from a nice block by Wesley, followed by the 2nd and ten completion to Brinkman for a first down. The next play was the final TD to Brown.

I have watched the highlights like 20 times now and am so impressed with the throws Childers made and the catches our receivers made. Just great stuff. If they could do that with regularity no one would stop this offense.

I thought part of it was Buffalo letting up. It is amazing how many times teams lose game by sitting back on leads. That Childers throw to Brinkman was just unreal on that last drive

I don't know if it was letting up, they simply didn't have time to run the deep routes once #12 was in. We sure'd up the tackling a bit and they were closed down.

RE: MCC Observations
Wesley had a great last drive (even without a catch?), as you mentioned 81, he had the great block on the Jones play, but he also ran a fantastic route on the game winning TD, he ran a medium-long curl, sold it HARD, kept all the other DB's in the middle on him while Brown burned his man.

Jackson became a completely different QB after the possession where he got sacked three times. Orlovsky even pointed it out.

Childers threw the ball well. Being in a dome makes it easier. If not windy in Boca, he should have same type of game.

Childers performed at a level we have not seen before. He's had good statistical games in the past but the caliber of plays he made in Detroit was off the charts. If he could play like that the offense would be sick, especially since they already have excellent running backs.

It had everything to do with #12 back in the game. They were no longer able to double up Sutton and the Buffalo QB found out how quickly both 15 and 12 can get to him. With that said, it’s still bullsh*t he had to sit out the first half.

RE: MCC Observations
Could Childers' TD pass to Tears to start the 4th and Harnish's TD to Moore in 2011 be anymore similar?

Same stadium
Same end zone
Same corner of the end zone
Both in the 4th quarter
Both bought NIU within a score
Both were 32 yard TDs!!

Kill started Grady over Harnish in 2010, his Jr year. There were not many who thought Harnish would become the QB he became after his sophomore year. a comparison of sophomore years

Childers Sophomore year: 13 games, Passing 1996 yards, 15 TD 10 Ints; Rushing 496 yards.

Harnish Sophomore year: 10 Games, Passing 1670 yards, 11 TD 6 ints; Rushing 229 yards
If you extrapolate Harnish's numbers for 13 games: Passing 2171 yards, 14.3, 7.8, 298.

The one glaring difference is yards/attempt and completion percentage. That said I think we would all agree that Childers faced a tougher schedule, and there were a 2-3 games where there were a ton of drops. That said the question remains as to whether or not Childers will take the step between years 2-3 that Harnish did. I remain very hopeful.

People keep forgetting that Childers is only a sophomore. There is still plenty of time for him to become a great MAC quarterback.

Mitch Brinkmann has played in 4 games, through the MACC game, this year. Question is, does he play in the bowl game or sit it out and get another year because this could be considered a redshirt year?

If he hasn’t already redshirted, he needs to sit.

Although this place treats bowl games like the Super Bowl, so I may be alone in that thought.

Isn’t Crawford supposed to be back as the main guy next year and was hurt this whole season? Or am I thinking of someone else

Yea because one of 5 games outside the conference has to mean nothing, right? So yes, you are probably alone in that thought.

So they should punt the bowl game too? This is getting freaking ridiculous.

It's kind of amusing, NIU fans have wanted to set this poor kid out to pasture the entire season. He plays really well for one quarter and now we are ready to anoint him the next great MAC QB!

I hope Childers does progress and become a force behind center. However, I have about 40 quarters of film that suggests he won't, and 1 quarter of film that suggests he will.

How do y'all feel about those odds?

My biggest fear is that the offense will go back to its Three-And-Out mantra in the bowl game and I have to witness it live -- again. The first quarter against FSU was incredibly frustrating, watching 6 consecutive 3-and-outs. You'd think the coaches would be making adjustments after a couple 3-and-outs but nope. That's what makes this offense incredibly frustrating. In a few games, the offensive coaches have shown some creativity and aggressiveness. But in most games, they've let things get way out of hand with the futility of the offense. I really hope it's not like that in the bowl game.

I bet you wrote Harnish off too after being benched and playing terrible through his first 2 years.
