One thing NKU does better than UC...build a basketball arena. I still can’t figure what they were thinking when they designed it. The entire presentation from pregame, to stats, to scoreboard usage is just bad.

No championship banners, zero student section excitement, very little pep band time, and an overall blah look creates one of the worst college basketball atmospheres. The old arena with 6,000 fans for a buy game created a more fun environment than whatever we have going now. So many useless large screens. Why do I have to squint to see how many fouls a player has?
Good God give it a rest.

+1, something tells me the problems run deeper than the new arena.

Man, that's no lie. I saw them lose a couple on tv early in the year to Buffalo and Western Ky where they averaged about 20 turnovers a game. There pressure defense is worthless as they can't score. Huggins looks like he's going to melt. Someone needs to invent a warm weather/self cooled golf pullover in a hurry.

I'm a lot more optimistic then after the Ohio State game. Scott's free throw shooting has improved dramatically. The only thing about him is he is going to need to be more decisive when making moves in the post. He hesitates too much at times. I'm sure that will improve as he becomes more comfortable but overall he has been a pleasant surprise. Eliminate the bad passes and this could be a very good team if everyone continues to improve.

I would say yes. Will get votes at least.

This team sure looks top 25 to me right now. Not saying they are great or perfect. But if they beat X and they deserve to be in. I’d say we are anywhere from 15-30 in nation right now.

We did get votes in coaches poll this past week...something like 38th ranked.

Scott may not be as much of a stiff as I originally thought.

It takes a big man to admit when he is wrong...and I am not a big man.

So beating a 5-3 (After OU 6-3 or 5-4) should boost us in the polls?

Recieve votes, I think we do. Who the hell has UK beat and they are 9?

Beating the 7-1 Horizon League favorite handily and beating a 6-3 rival that has owned us over the last decade to move to 9-1 should boost us in the polls, yes.

RE: NKU game thread
Something not remarked on enough - the growth and development of our centers - Brooks and Nsoseme. I don't want to nominate either of them as "elite" as yet, but I like what I am seeing. Both were far quicker than NKU's guys in the paint.

Between them - 16 points (including 4 for 4 from FT line), 10 rebounds, 3 blocks.

Nsoseme had more minutes last night, but zero fouls.

It is great to have a 2nd big man you can put in so that one is always fresh.

I would have loved to see Diarra get some minutes last night too Oh, well.

I agree. We were on most radars early on and fell off due to O$U loss. They are proving to be better than expected and we are starting to pile up some solid wins. I think this is the point in time when some pollsters take a deeper dive and I think they will start to see that UC is doing what they usually do and could see a big jump in love from them if we can take down XU Saturday.

Why not? They had no matchups for UC at all. It was either foul or give up a basket.

Oh since when is a good 3 point shooting team not a bad matchup for UC? Even the free throws and it's a tie game?

NKU was hacking like crazy, you can't just even out the FTs, that's not how it works. UC dominated; it was a double digit lead for the last 30 minutes. It seems you thought that this was going to be a tight game, but it wasn't.

Not only has Scott's game been great, he's also got fantastic leadership qualities. I'm very impressed with him, he's been awesome since the OSU game.

Currently NKU has one of the highest foul rates in the country. It was no accident that drawing fouls was a big part of the UC gameplan.

When looking at computer rankings, Northern Kentucky is borderline top 100, and Xavier is hovering around top 50. Yes, if (big if) we win on Saturday, those two wins should move the needle along with being 9-1 with other top 100-150 wins.

Takes a big man to stop referring to student-athletes who bust their asses for their university as "stiffs".

This team will have some WTF losses before the season is over. However they should continue to improve as the guys get use to their roles.

I suppose it depends on what you qualify as WTF losses. I think we'll drop games from the teams like Wichita State and perhaps Memphis, both likely NIT teams, but that's about it. We're playing steady right now and - despite the loss of three key guys - we're a veteran-led team with good guard play and strong defense. That doesn't necessarily equal WTF losses.

I think everyone is waiting on Saturday's game before they get too excited. But a nice win over X should really get the optimism flowing.

I don't want to think about what another loss to X will bring out.

My feeling as well. We may lose a few games to some 50-150 type teams...that happens. I very much doubt we'll have a truly bad loss. Mick's teams seem particularly adept at avoiding those.
