Virtually every other MAC school seems to do it once a decade, if not more.
You just watched the football team fight their asses off and bring home a championship 5 days ago. But hey, fake punt, right?

RE: Frazier extended to 2023
In absence of brilliance, stability is paramount.
Love or hate Carey, we have remained a viable, if not a good program, under his watch.
Having a stable head coach keeps recruits. A high turnover in coaches means good recruits de-commit.
Look at the turmoil in other MAC teams and their coaches at this point. Even a flash in the pan like Fleck, who brought great success to WMU, left behind a certain amount of chaos. The whole boat-rower thing was an embarrassment.
Having stability at the AD position is important too. Frazier put together a great schedule this year, and we easily could have been 2-2 in OOC play against high-level teams. He does a lot with the few resources he has.
Sagarin has our SOS at 73, which is pretty good for a mid-major.
We just had a spectacular comeback to win yet another MACC. I'm going to enjoy that and the upcoming bowl game, and give Carey/Frazier the benefit of the doubt.

In addition, our student athletes graduate and many have very high GPAs. That should be applauded.
Well said. I’m glad he’s extended!

None of us are that important so live with it.
The university is a government institution and should be transparent to the taxpayers by proactively communicating, especially when the football coach and the athletic direction are such high profile, highly compensated state employees.
And, if that is your opinion, I certainly respect it. But, my point is that it is not required. "Should" is one thing but "must" is another.

I agree that governments should be transparent, and certainly do not agree it is not anybody's business. That would be a very strange attitude to have toward the fans and in the long run would hurt the programs.

MD,
Your unbridled passion and resourcefulness for NIU athletics is appreciated and valued. You calling your shot at making the Orange Bowl in 2012 solidified yourself as an NIU legend forever in my books. You have a permanently open invitation for free drinks at any Huskie FB, BB, Detroit trips in the future to chew my ears off with 90s classics from Chick Evans.
Thought to add positive energy after one member requesting with dancing emoticons for another member of the NIU community to kill himself in this thread has gone unchecked.

Oh come on Woke Up, you can’t be serious that I meant that even remotely.
MD is certainly in the top tier of those with NIU passion. He’s also notorious for hijacking threads with negative points repeated on end. (Hence his five month hiatus from this board earlier this year.)
Apologies to MD, Woke Up and anyone else on this board who found my “tongue in cheek” comment offensive.
Go Huskies.

Actually, transparency is a "must" since the school is an entity of state government.
No one said this board should be consulted first.

Depending on your definition of transparency, yes and no. They didn't miss any 'rules' or 'laws'...so they 'must' not have needed to.

RE: Frazier extended to 2023
Next time STF considers a football schedule-palooza, I hope he targets games to bring in good Saturday crowds. I applaud him trying with the Utahs and Nebraskas and BYUs, I liked those ideas when I saw 'em. But now I'd like to see us have one good OOC money game, and the rest be nice Saturday at home games against very local team. Bring in the Illinois regionals and the few thousands more fans they will bring, the SIUs, ISUs, etc.. Bring in the Northern Iowas. I want to try those types of teams now, Saturday home games when the weather is warmer, and focus on the crowds.
Am i off base? will we loose recruits doing that?

I like the idea of bringing in the ISU, SIU, Westerns, etc...I agree, but don't think it has to stop the others.
We had Utah here, who just played in the PAC-12 champ game...and we couldn't break what, 17k? It's just a bigger problem than the 'who' at this point.

I think he's trying but nobody wants to pony up enough $ to make it worthwhile for NIU. Rather than sell rights for 10 years or more at bargain basement prices he's waiting for someone to meet his target price. It would be interesting to know what that target is.
Naming rights for Convo will be in the $500k range a year not in the Millions.

Making the information available is one thing. Promoting it is another. In a state were funds are of high focus. Promoting Athletic spending is a negative. The university is not hiding that they are spending the money. They just choose not to publicly promote the expenses. If they had the 110 million to do the stadium, most of you would not be upset if they didn't promote the spending and just did it.

I think coaches should get the credit when athletes go to class and get good grades.
I like the extension.

He's gone 6-6, 6-5, 6-5 the last 3 years at ISU and missed the playoffs the last 2 years. I don't think any bigger programs are going to hire him.
