Fourteen hours away by car and on a Tuesday. Extended family was excited about possibly going to one of the LA bowls but oh well.

Disappointing.

lots of complaining (on Blazertalk) about Bahamas and Hawaii because fans cant travel to tropical islands. I predict that the number of fans in Boca Raton is very similar to the Bahamas.

I was working during UABs 1st bowl game, and I'm scheduled to be working during this one 03-weeping
I'll get to work on changing that

Maybe the Boca Bowl was the best of the choices. I had selfishly hoped for New Orleans just because of my work and holiday travel schedule. But for some reason I had believed that the Tampa Bowl game was a higher profile game ? Would it not be a higher profile opponent ?

Looks like it gonna be a USF home game. Not a great season for them so I guess the MAC champ is better but Boca is a long ass drive. My daughter played there a few weeks ago and her team flew in to Ft. Lauderdale. Driving from Bham isn't practical unless you planning on several overall travel days.

Flying or driving down really not a big deal for a couple but if you taking the whole family you're talking a major outlay. I plan on being there but won't being taking as large a group as the NO or Indie Bowls.

I don't live in Birmingham, so won't go through the trouble to research all the travel options for you. However, an option for people may be to fly to Orlando and drive from there. Round trip airfare to Orlando is cheap, like $150 round trip last I checked. Only a four hour drive from there.

I think USF is at home for the Gasparilla Bowl, isn't it? We get Northern Illinois, the MAC champion, in Boca.

Yeah, sorry if I was unclear. The Gasparilla is just another USF home game. Not that great IMO. UNI is definitely a better match up. Just wish it wasn't out of realistic driving range. It will have a major impact on how many UAB fans make the trip.

If my research serves me correct there is a one million dollar payout to teams participating in the
Cheribundi Boca Raton Bowl. Also, thank goodness the team has eighteen days to recuperate from various injuries. I hope that the team does light workouts and simply goes through the motions without pads during practices for the next ten days, or so.

Should be able to get a cheap flight with southwest to ft Lauderdale and then rent a car and it's an easy drive to Boca. Honestly I'm more disappointed about the opponent. I know Northern Illiniois is the MAC champ but I was hoping to play a P5 or an AAC team.

RE: Boca Raton Bowl
Northern Illinois won at BYU this season, 7-6. BYU won statistically, but NIU’s defense gave them a chance to win in front of 51K (mostly BYU) fans.

NIU had to come back from a 20-point deficit to win the MAC Title 30-29 over Buffalo.

They averaged 20.7 points per game, and gave up 21.7. They lost at Iowa, home against Utah, at FSU, at home against Miami-Ohio, and at Western Michigan.

Utah had to come from behind to beat them.

As an FAU fan I am thrilled to see UAB coming to Boca. I hope we will get to play you next year.

Flights: Southwest airlines flies from B'ham to FLL through Orlando which I recommend.
Also there is a shuttle that runs from FLL to Boca raton for $26 each way per person.
https://goairportshuttle.com/

Of course uber is always available for about $35 each way. You may want to call hotels and see if they will run a shuttle to the game.

UAB has won one TV game in a row. Let's see if we can make it two in a row and start a winning streak. NIU has a pretty good FB reputation as a MAC power (several seasons ago they defeated Bama) and beating them will not be easy. UAB is a building program and will be for a few more seasons.
