Because I'm not assuming you have to kick players off the team; certainly not several players were it would affect APR.

Its silly to think you need 3-4, four-star recruits to compete in basketball.

The chance of landing 20 good players in a recruiting class is slim-to-none. Not only that, but the majority of college players take a year or more often 2-3 years to even get to a spot where they can compete at the college level.

I personally don't consider a 4-8 record, our worst ever, with the senior class we had, a minor setback. I consider it a disaster. I want some of the stuff BW is smoking. If I was in charge, he would be long gone. Nothing has shown me he is a FBS coach. Certainly his staff hasn't been. I will continue to support ODU Football, but his rhetoric has gotten really old and boring....

Bro educate yourself on how APR aid figured.

I clearly stated in my original post that it is easier to build a football team over the years vs a basketball team.

Debating with you is pointless, because you think you’re right even when you have no idea

Good grief, I know the effects of APR. you are the one hung up in the thougt process that basketball teams would have to lose non graduating players.

You certainly clearly stated it...sure. Its just wrong.

You think its easier to build an 85 man roster for a sport where very few freshman are ready to play day 1 over a 13 person roster where a good percentage of freshman play day 1. One where you have 5 players on the court at one time and 1 good player can make a huge difference. It makes zero sense but beither does your hold up on APR when no one is talking about players leaving.

With the JMU/Houston news it got me thinking. If ODU had a really good run of success over several years, would BW leave or stay at ODU?

My guess is that he would actually stay. But lets get that success and cross that bridge when we get there.

Wilder would leave. You don't take interviews if you're that loyal. But let's hope he gives us a chance to prove you right.

If, say, Wake Forest came calling, Bobby would be packing his bags tomorrow, and I wouldn't blame him in the least.

Did he take any interviews?

He met with Temple officials and that helped lead to his current extension.

If a school from a better conference offered him more money, he'd be stupid to stay at ODU. The problem is that he's not a good coach or a good recruiter, so we'll never have to worry about it.

The question is purely speculative, as taking an interview is a win-win for the coach (get a bigger gig or leverage a bigger contract at your current spot). There's not a doubt in my mind that he would take a HC job at a larger university. However, due to the results of the past couple of years however, the "loyalty" card will be played many times. Regardless, I don't get mad/offended with the "loyalty" talk anyway. I believe most FBS coaches are in this as a lucrative business venture, and will look for the best opportunity for them (and their respective families, if applicable). Now the debate comes in when how does each individual coach defines opportunity.

The last coach we had that was hired away by another school in a major sport was Oliver Purnell. That speaks volumes about the quality of coaches we have had.

I can't blame any coach for taking the better paying job with better resources. I'd do the same thing.

In fairness, they've only had three coaches since Purnell — Capel, who rest his soul wasn't very good for this level, Blaine, who I believe was at least rumored for a couple of Mountain West jobs before his dramatic implosion, and Jones, who is here. Wilder is football's only coach. And that's it for major sports unless you count women's basketball, in which case technically Barefoot was hired away by UNCW.

Maybe JMpoo could go after Wilder!

He's never lost in Harrisonburg. He has maybe the best winning % in CAA history, at 13-3!
