I’m honestly not sure if Brohm would’ve been the right choice for UL, or not. But if the #1 guy on their wish-list was willing to take the job and they let him get away over $$$, then that really is on UL not Brohm.

Understatement...he is now getting Urban Meyer type money...word is the target is Scott Satterfield and I am very satisfied if he is the guy. The other people I like are Luke Fickett @ UC & Ryan Day the OC @ Ohio State.

Satterfield would be the best hire IMO. He is a great coach that UofL could probably get for 2.5 mil per year. Also his recruiting class at App is similar to UofL’s. Granted UofL’s is bad but considering he is recruiting similar to what UofL has been shows he is a good recruiter. If he can sell App to a ton of 3 star kids I’m sure he could sell UofL to a ton of 4 star kids.

Supposedly, $6 million a year is what Purdue ponied up for Brohm.

Which is freakin' crazy.

I like Brohm and all, but he has 2 years of Power 5 experience.

I have NO idea who is on our target list. But the next few days will be interesting.

I suspect, that we try to fill this position by the end of the weekend.

I like Satterfield. Very bright coach and can relate to His players. Something that has been missing the last 2 years.

I don't think you should expect to get a good up and coming G5 coach for $2.5mil a year average. When VT signed Fuente is was for $3.5mil a year average and when he won the division in his first year, it was renegotiated for $4mil a year average.

Really I would expect Louisville to shell out up to $6mil a year for the right guy with all the money y'all make.

That's what that Big 10 money can do for you. It allows an unprestigious program that would otherwise lose a good coach to be able to keep their coach.

A lot of folks are enamored with Satterfield - and I get it, he looks very promising. For the Louisville situation, I lean towards Luke Fickell at Cincinnati for the following reasons:
1) Power 5 and National Championship experience.
2) Cincinnati recruiting
3) Knows how to deal with off-field problems

I also like Neal Brown because he has shown the ability to beat teams like Nebraska and LSU - but the underdog role is different from being the hunted, plus I'm not sure if he's too "blue" for Cardinal fans.

Satterfield is the safe choice, I'm just not sure he's right for Louisville.

Neil Brown is a NO GO for Louisville...he would split the Fanbase with his comments about Louisville while he was at Kentucky.

For myself I like one of these 3....Scott Satterfield, Luke Fickell & Ryan Day. Would also like to see us reach out to Tony Elliot at Clemson. He knows the conference but it looks like Georgia Tech is looking hard at him as well.

1. Scott Satterfield, Appalachian State
Sources have told Pat Forde and I that he’s the top choice. Can’t argue with the winning. He’s 39-11 the past four years, including three bowl victories. There’s a tricky timing issue here with Appalachian State playing in the Sun Belt title game this weekend. He’s considered a top target, but not the only one.

2. Luke Fickell, Cincinnati
Coming off a 10-win season, it’d be interesting to see if he gets in the mix. Fickell is a lifelong Ohio guy and projects more as a Big Ten coach. His defensive background and discipline would be a drastic shift from the Petrino era. He could cut into Kentucky coach Mark Stoops’ success recruiting Ohio.

3. Ryan Day, Ohio State OC
A program that has always had an identity tied to big offensive numbers would be attractive to Day in the wake of a record-setting season at Ohio State. There will be plenty of interest in Day elsewhere, including at Maryland. So Louisville would need to pounce after the Big Ten title game this weekend.

My friend in the athletic department said after Brohm turned down the gig, there were some surprising contacts made by at least 1 existing P5 coach.

When I pressed on a specific, I was told "no, it wasn't Mike Leach".

But that has shaken things up a bit, I imagine.

I think Satterfield may lead right now, but I am not sure if VT has zeroed in on his final target.


Personally, I really like Bill Clark at UAB. Dude wins. At every level he's tried so far. Which means he has systems he knows and trusts, and he can recruit to those systems, and most importantly, TEACH those systems. His resume is a little thin ... but so what. He's got fire. And can build from scratch.

Fickell isn't coming to Louisville. He's mentioned that he has a 10 year plan and his wife doesn't want him uprooting his family every few years. He's waiting for Urban Meyer to retire or a job like Notre Dame to open up.

He is not our second choice anyway. Scott Satterfield is our second choice.

My take on Neal Brown is this, Kentucky fan were in total Spite of Calipari when He coached at Memphis. Some of the language They described Him with can't be posted on here. The minute He signed on as Their Head Coach, all the trash talk went out the window. Suddenly He was the greatest thing since peanut butter.
My point is What someone says about a rival while at another school should be taken in jest. If Neal took the job here, He most likely would give it 110 % and likely stoke the fires getting Kentucky fans on the defense. Never say never. Howard was a UK all American player.
