RE: Coach London
I'm sure coach London knows the issue, but I'd be nervous bringing over anything to do with that Howard defense. It was that bad. Here's to hoping he chooses correctly.

You can see the intro presser in its entirety on Facebook here
https://www.facebook.com/wmtribeathletic...972531596/

I think I've been labeled as a kool-aid drinker on the hire, but I thought it was a pretty good intro. He gave some political responses, but that is usually how these intros go. I thought he came across as a likable guy. From just this small glimpse, I can see why he would be a good recruiter. He speaks passionately about football, his beliefs, and expectations. I will agree that I don't think he prepped a lot for the speech, but it didn't bother me like it did others. A lot of the questions people thought he didnt address were asked in the Q&A portion. They asked about if he learned and bettered himself from the UVA experience. He was asked about retaining the staff. He was asked about recruiting. I think he gave fair enough answers under the circumstances.

Not yet. He, understandably, didn't give a firm answer one way or another when asked.

Laycock:
“If you’ve got good, solid people who are hard-working and loyal and do things the right way, it’ll work out....
And that was the case with Mike. I think it’s been proven over the course of time that he’s that kind of person. He’s genuine. He is who he is. He’s a fine person. He’s a great role model. And I’m sure he’ll do very, very well.”

RE: Coach London
I was a bit surprised with the pick, thought the new ladies in charge would pick from outside the sphere. London's career (good and bad) is all out there, and we are interested in the final coaching list.

He is lucky in that he brings back almost everyone on the defense, and much on the offense. Can the young OL and QB's get coached up? Finally a change in the offensive scheme?

He is not left with a bare cupboard at all. Let's see what he can do, and whatever staff is left or added can do.

Could matter: ODU dismissed...okay, FIRED...their DC, Special teams/safeties coach, and their OL coach. Have to think many more coaches will be out of a job and I suspect London will be at least familiar with a few.

ODU's defense has been atrocious...no thanks.

My point is a guy like Andrews could end up there if we don't retain him.

A friendly reminder that a poor defense isn't always the fault of the coaches. Some times it just doesn't work out and a coach is sometimes the first/easiest casualty.

Especially when a coach (like Wilder) is on the hot seat. Sometimes they muck it up for their assistants.

RE: Coach London
Wilder is in a desperate situation: the only reason he wasn't fired is that ODU doesn't want to have to pay his contract off. He is not an ingratiating person (ask Jimmye what he thinks of the guy) and many don't like him to start with.

This was a veteran team that went 4-8 that was expected to vie for the conference crown.
What's left for next ODU season doesn't look spectacular and another poor team in a brand new stadium is possible.

The loss to a terrible Rice team that had lost eight consecutively, on top of the already horrendous season, really brought out the boo birds who were shocked by the awful Rice game.

He had to fire everyone to appease the critics.
