UGAg could have named the score. If they didn't take out the starters early 3rd quarter it would have been 60-something to 7.
The same crappy and inconsistent offensive play that was bailed out by inept opponents the last two weeks finally met an opponent not willing to help it out.
The ESPN TV coverage was abysmal. It was full SEC homers all the way down. They mocked Taquon for "throwing a Reggie Ball into the hedges" on air. They openly pondered whether UMASS gave them a better game last week.
If PJ came into this game without a winning record it would have been VERY interesting to see if Stansbury would have been forced to fire him right there on the spot Gailey style. I think this game makes it impossible for PJ to be extended with any kind of meaningful buyout increase. Which means it will cost just $2m to fire PJ next year. PJ set attendance low records for his tenure this year .... three times. The GTAA will lose more money in unsold tickets than it cost to keep PJ next year. I think PJ is a dead man walking and he'll "retire" after this season or next or be fired after not making a bowl next year. The ACC is as awful as it has ever been post expansion ... and GT can't take advantage. On the contrary ... they're moving in the wrong direction.
What will be interesting is what Stansbury does to replace PJ. Stansbury may have done good things everywhere he has been (ETSU, UCF, Oregon State, and now GT) but he hasn't had to make a revenue sport hire yet. And this hire will make or break the GTAA for the next 10 years. And oh, btw, Pastner is making his way to the on deck circle for the axe given his spectacular failure to recruit so far. Combined with the Danny Hall slide in baseball there's literally nothing to cheer about in the GTAA these days. It's the most in debt the GTAA has ever been. It's the most woeful athletic product they've produced in two full generations -- since at least before Homer Rice was AD. It's time for wholesale changes throughout the ranks and across several sports. If Stansbury's argument is we can't compete at that level because ($facilities$), then I'd demand everybody including Stansbury take a pay cut that is redirected to the AI2020 campaign. Either you're going to win now or you're going to sell everything -- EVERYTHING -- up the river like the Braves/Royals/Marlins to win tomorrow. No middle ground.
It's time for Stansbury to earn that paycheck.
