Bowls with AAC ties include:
Dec 15 - Cure - 751,000
Dec 18 - Boca Raton - 1,000,000
Dec 19 - Frisco - ?
Dec 20 - Gasparilla - 1,133,735
Dec 22 - Birmingham - 1,650,000
Dec 22 - Armed Forces - 900,000
Dec 31 - Military - 2,066,000
So, if we are looking for $, the Military Bowl looks best for UC. However, after sharing proceeds with the league, it might not make that much of a difference. It is good to at least get enough to cover the cost of going.
Of course, if we can get to the NY6, that might be a different matter money-wise.
I'd have to dig, but I am pretty sure after expenses and sharing revenue the only bowl game that results in a decent profit for a school is if you get to the Access Bowl. Geographical considerations are usually what drives who goes where for the other games. Based on geography the two that make the most sense for us or the Military and Birmingham.
As someone who hasn't shown much interest in AAC bowl tie in since the conference was formed - mainly because bowls were irrelevant to UC since its inception, is it safe to assume those with higher payouts would generally have a higher quality opponent?
And similar to golf tournament purses, the bowls with higher payouts have more prestige?
That is usually correct. The date and network time slot matter. Every once in a while a bowl game gets a game that is much better matchup than the actual bowl.

RE: Ridiculously early Bowl Projections
Playing Georgia Tech in the Military Bowl would be a pretty good outcome, all things considered. The Military Bowl is a mid-tier bowl at best, but it's better than the AAC's garbage tie-ins. We know we can stop their offense, so it should be a beatdown.
Butchering a low level P5 opponent in a mid-tier bowl on Dec. 31 is way better for optics than playing a close game against a solid, underrated G5 opponent in the Toilet Bowl on Dec. 15.
Obviously, our goal at this point should be the access bowl, but making and winning the Military Bowl when most people expected a 6-6 season would be great.

RE: Ridiculously early Bowl Projections
At least in the old Big East, the bowl money all went into a pool to be divided among conference members. The schools that actually participated in those bowls probably got one extra, but equal, share.
The better paying bowls will generally prefer the schools that bring more fans. Thankfully, in this conference, that puts UC at or near the top of the pecking order. Each participating school is required to buy a large block of tickets and essentially resell those to its fan base. So schools that don't sell their allocation immediately have a deficit to manage against any potential earnings. Team travel, housing and food all take a big bite out of that too.
So, for the good of the AAC (and UC), getting UCF or UC in that access bowl helps financially, as well as filling all remaining bowl slots. I would agree that UC is destined for either the Military or Birmingham Bowl for a P5 matchup which certainly is more exciting to most fans than playing a Sun Belt or MAC team.
I recall Tubs claiming during one of his bowl seasons here that UC came within moments (Sudden bowl eligibility from a kickoff return for a game winning touchdown maybe?) of being invited to fill an open slot designated for the Big 12. So that could happen again as the bowls sometimes have more open slots for a P5 conference than that conference has bowl eligible teams. It's reasonable to believe that UC would be high on that "fill-in" list again this season, should the circumstance arise.

I stopped buying my bowl ticket through UC because despite my high level I got crap seats. Beginning with Belk, Belk, Liberty I bought 50 yard line seats at not much more than the crap UC allocated seats. I will do the same again. Have reservations at Westin Annapolis and figure if Birmingham hotels will not be hard to get and if in FL I will stay a my Siesta Key Condo and drive.

They changed the rules for bowl and tournament ticket allotment in the past year or so. It went from a priority based on total lifetime giving to ranking based on year to year giving, in other words "what have you done for me lately?". Apparently if you haven't done much the last few years, you get crappy bowl and tournament tickets.

Try reading as I said I stopped buying through UC years ago. The last was the Sugar bowl. Also I dropped my BB center seats about 6 years ago when I lost all faith in Mickey.

Lazy effort by, Sherman. They've already played this year. Surely no one is asking for a rematch.

RE: Ridiculously early Bowl Projections
Again this season, the Big 12 has eight bowl slots guaranteed.
There could be hope for a leftover B12 leftover like the Liberty.
B12 has 4 qualified and
1. Baylor 5-5 they lose to TCU and TT end 5-7
2. TT 5-5 they beat Baylor and KS end 7-5
3. OKS 5-5 then WVU and TCU they lose to WVU and beat TCU end 6-6
4. KS 4-6 they lose to TT and ISU end 4-8
6. TCU 4-6 they beat Baylor and lose to OKS end 5-7
B12 qualifies 6 so UC takes Liberty slot and gets an SEC team if UC does not win out and get Peach.

I still think UC needs to beat ECU to be the clear number 2 option in the conference. Temple is likely 8-4, Houston is likely 8-4, Memphis could be 8-5 if they beat Houston but lose to UCF. A 10-2 Cincinnati team would standout, 9-3 would not. USF is getting a bowl in Florida most likely.
We could see Temple in the Military instead of Cincinnati if Birmingham or Liberty options are out there for Cincinnati. I still see Temple below below Cincinnati, Memphis, and Houston because they have a small traveling fan base.

Worst case KSS and TCU wins and B12 qualifies 8 and no Holiday leftovers.
We'd have plenty in Annapolis.
Wasn’t Temple there more recently?
