I don't know, he is throwing lasers and looking like an NFL QB tonight, with 210 passing yards in the 1st quarter.

You're dreaming man. He's 5'10 175 and would get killed. I'm not sure if he would be drafted, he has all the wrong measurement. Yea he can sling it in c USA but hasn't really has a high % of success. Hope the best for him but the odd are totally against, a 5'10 QB out of a G5. Not what you want to waste a draft pic on. I actually really like him. But playing in the NFL and being successful slim to none.

Yeah , they probably said this about Dree Brees and Fran Tarkenton, and now Nick Mullen’s of the 49 ers. Hopefully he gets his chance.

Well, Drew Brees is 6-0 209 lbs, Tark is 6-0 190 lbs, and Mullens is 6-0 187. All of them are significantly bigger. I wish the kid the best, but I see CFL written all over him (see Doug Flutie). I hope I’m wrong and that he gets a shot.

Exactly. He's basically 2 inches smaller and he would get killed in the pros. Mullens, has played against the Raiders and looked good, once they get more tape it's going to be tough sledding. You also compared fine to a first ballot hof who hold basically every record in NFL.

In not only his height but his build. Doug Flutie, who's NFL career was very pedestrian, had some stockiness to his build. Fine is also not a great runner like Flutie was. I consider Fine a pocket passer than a mobile quarterback.

Cant compare a small qb today to the ones that played in the NFL 15-30 years ago....

I would think the avg height and size of Defensive players are a lot larger today...quickness also.

Good point.

I love Mason Fine but professional football is not in his future. However, he is going to succeed in life whatever that may be. He's talked about eventually taking a leadership role in the Cherokee Nation.

No, I compared his size, but what ever floats your boat. Two inches is not significant.

When you're comparing him to guys who were thought to be too small themselves, despite being two inches taller, it starts to matter.

Which would make it more difficult for a 5’10” qb to see over both the offensive and defensive line, no?

With all due respect, I disagree. I think he'll be a good NFL QB in the right system. I felt the same vibe for Mullens when he was at Southern Miss. It took him a little time, but he's there and making a good impression. Fine will do the same, IMO. Damn sure hope the Falcons draft him if his name is there.

As do I and I'm a UAB fan. If this is the direction his life is calling for him, whatever the case may be, I'm sending a good thought his way. If he has NFL aspirations, I'd love to see him get the shot. Whatever will be, will be.

And if the NFL and CFL are off the table, he'll shine in that new football league, the AAFL. (?) They draft according to territory, so either the franchise in San Antonio or Memphis can sign him up. And we in Birmingham will get to watch him regularly because we have a team, too.

No, it doesn’t matter at all. There are some scouts that think like you that still have egg on their face about players. However, the likelyhood of those slightly taller being drafted will be just about a lock. Who will be the next scout or coach with egg on their face? A relative of Jerry Granville no doubt...lol

With every inch under about 6'2" the odds of making it as a NFL QB gets lower and lower.

If he's actually 5'11 185, maybe he has a shot, if he's any smaller, forget about it.

I feel confident in saying I will not have "egg on my face" by saying that the first 5'10" 175lb QB to make it in the NFL is not playing on a 8-3 CUSA team.

Save this, bookmark it, do whatever you want.

My P5 or G5 standards, Mason Fine is on the smallish side. Last night against FAU I witnessed two, big FAU defensive linemen "sandwich" Mason on one play. Chalk it up to a bad UNT offensive line. He had to leave the game but came back in later.

I don't think Mason can handle hits like that in the NFL. He is simply not built for playing in the NFL.

Totally agree. It's too bad. He has a lot of skill and is tough as hell. But he won't get drafted due to his size. It sucks but it's reality. You just need to keep him one more year and see if you can run the table. Can't be losing to ODU, cutting it close with UTEP, etc. Those games kill you.
