RE: D2 Schools As Candidates To Become D1
I think OVC adds Southern Indiana (new arena soon) the minute they lose Murray St. OVC relocated its tourney from Nashville to Evansville and made quotes about tapping into that market.

UC SAN DIEGO JUST ANNOUNCED THAT THEY WILL BE JOINING THE BIG WEST CONFERENCE ALONG WITH CAL ST BAKERSFIELD. I ALSO FEEL THAT THE WHOLE CCAA Conference should move up to divison I due to the big student body they have and also having multiple sports
Sorry, you're a week late with the breaking news. Some schools in the CCAA have large enrollments but they probably don't have the finances available to move up.
But im sure those schools can try to have a good athletic program in the future.

So if Columbus State , West Georgia or Valdosta ever expressed interest in moving to division I which conference would be the best fit?

I would suggest contacting DavidSt. He’s an encyclopedia when it comes to that stuff.

None of Columbus State, Valdosta State, or West Georgia currently meet the minimum requirements for D1. Columbus State has also dropped 2 sports in the last 3.5 years due to financial reasons. Don't hold your breath expecting anything from them concerning D1.

As I’ve mentioned before, Valdosta State is absolutely not moving up to division 1.

Exactly, that’s my point. Our neithbor’s brother is the athletic director. I sat in his seats for the West Georgia game Saturday. They studied it internally not too long ago and it’s not happening.

Is the state of Georgia in bad shape like financially? I think I heard they are. I know Illinois is in severe financial trouble hence why so many schools are struggling.. its frustrating. I'd love to see more schools move up but not if they cant afford too.

The issue with any D2 schools saying that they do not have any money is nothing but a lie. Look at Northern Kentucky as an example. They were D2 and said the exact same thing. ASun is based in Alabama, Tennessee, Georgia and Florida. It would still be the same travels for the schools. Valdosta State, West Georgia, West Florida and Columbus State would fit nicely. 5 Florida, 4 Georgia, 1 Tennessee, 1 Alabama and 1 New Jersey (who is looking for a better home.) UNF, FGCU, Columbus State and Lipscomb all thinking about adding football. You would be getting 4 top teams from Gulf South Conference and Kennesaw State. ASun could try and bring back Jacksonville State and Florida Tech and boom, they could be as strong as the MVFC.

The ASun is only looking to add 1 more school...
VSU wont move up for whatever reason
West Georgia has said they wanted to, and then said no.
Dont know about Columbus St.
West Florida is more than Likely the #1 candidate out of D2.
From what I was told, it's more than likely a current D1 school that have expressed interest since UNA and Liberty have joined the ASun. But I have no idea who.

FGCU did a study about adding football. Because of the upfront costs of facilities and the additional costs that would be involved due to Title IX, they have no interest in doing so for at least the next 10 years. The only way I see it happening is if the lack of football becomes a significant barrier to being able to move up to a better conference.

They are staying in the ASun for a long time. So is everyone else in the ASun.
