O'Connell is a solid player

Our perimeter defensive woes are going to be exposed by teams like UNCG.

Would like to see the starting five in a zone on occasion just to see what it looks like from our starters.

UNCG on a big run right now. 21-12 bad guys.

Sure is. I think if we can play the game like this the rest of the way we have a chance if we can get some stops and go on some offensive runs.

This style of play for us will work well in the CAA, IMO.

We are down 10, 31-21 but it feels closer than that. UNCG doesn’t miss. Their dribble drive is tearing our guards up. Hope we stick with the Box-And 1 to put a stopper on that.

Regardless, it feels tighter than a 10 point disadvantage right now. So we’re not out of it.

I’m encouraged by how much zone we’ve played tonight. I feel like it’s a direct help to keeping us out of significant foul trouble too.

It takes us waaaaay too long to get the ball in the paint as we are breaking the press. Other than that, we’ve done a good job overall breaking it.

In UNCG’s favor with it though... even though it’s not turning us over as much it is taking us out of our timing and we are unable to establish an offensive rhythm because it’s so disruptive. Watching them run it looks like us a few years ago.

Agree. He’s not really an offensive threat and I’m not impressed with his defensive presence all that much. At this point, I’d be looking to give more of his minutes to O’Connell. Neither are great offensively, but O’Connell has the edge in terms of court presence.

Too much more of this and a program’s worst enemy sets in...apathy. Terrible showing. Awful. Uncg is really good and big and clearly knows who they are.

We must be watching different games. How do you say “terrible showing” and “awful” but follow that up with “UNCG is really good and big.”

I agree. We shouldn’t be down by 16 at the half, but that’s what happens when we don’t have more legitimate scoring out of players not named Cacok.

Even though we’re down here, I’ve seen a lot of positives. The coach utilizing more zone, us breaking the press, and better ball movement. We’re still turning the ball over too much, but I think that’s going to be a problem all year. Like we rely on Cacok for offense, we also rely on a freshman for ball handling. Outside of him our players are careless with the ball and that’s nothing we haven’t seen over the last few years.

A lot to still improve, but I am seeing improvements.
