Season outlook
Obviously we are still at a low point of the program. We have an interesting season ahead of us. We signed by far the best recruit under Spiker. Spiker got an extension in the offseason so the administration is clearly committed to him as our guy. This season can be a positive one or a really long one. Really hard to predict this team in my opinion. I think it'll be a rough season ahead.

RE: Season outlook
I'm not even going to try to predict this season, because I have NOTHING to go by. This is really a new beginning for Drexel Basketball. When I look at the roster, I see 16 players. For the first time, all 16 were recruited by Spiker and his coaches. Only Lee, Harper, and Demir played significant minutes last year. But there also seems to be a bit of experience on this roster as well.

I'm not excited about this year's team, but I am really curious. dan10's and Spearsie seems to have realistic outlooks, but we'll soon find out if Spiker can actually recruit at Drexel.

Sam Green is a Bruiser recruit even though he never played for him. He committed before Bru was fired/Spiker hired.
One could argue that Doi and the other two new walk-ons weren't really recruited either, but your point stands that this really is Spiker's team and it time to start showing what they can do.

Since you say you have nothing to go on, perhaps you should go watch the game against Dandenong in Australia this summer - or just wait until Saturday for the exhibition.

Well, let's hope we can't base how they will fare this season based on that game. Sure that jet lag was a factor, but they didn't look sharp in this one. Defense and rebounding are going to be issues all year. On offense its going to be Demir and Lee leading the way. Wynter and Walton showed some skills. But looks like its going to be a long year.

Agree Rodney was our rebounding last year. His void will be apparent. Wish we still had Tramaine to help on offense, but it will be interesting to see how these guys all gel. I think we will find some scoring due to tempo, I do not see us being a good shooting team and I think we will still struggle badly on defense.

We didn't have Rodney last year, I assume you meant Austin Williams. Tramaine was big on the boards as well and Sammy chipped as well so I agree that rebounding is of concern. I think Butler will be a big contributor there. Perry is more of a shot blocker but I'm not so sure about his rebounding. The others Demir, Tadas, and Doles also seem kind of weak inside. Hopefully being on campus for a whole year will help some with that; I believe both Demir and Tadas weren't on campus in the summer last year just arriving for the fall semester. Walton had good rebounding numbers in JUCO but it is hard to know how that will translate here.

I expect that shooting will be improved over last year. All the guys who will be potentially taking the guard minutes vacated by Tramaine and Sammy have good three-point shooting numbers (Walton, John, Washington, Green) and Harper can't get any worse that he was last year. I think all the big guys with the exception of Perry have decent outside shots as well.

To me defense is the big question. We were so bad last year and then lose Stretch on top of that. Although Tramaine was not seen as a good defensive player (and still is not if you read the Saint Louis boards), he had among the best numbers on the team for the opponents scoring at a lower rate when he was in the game compared to when he was not. The glimmer of hope there might be here is that Spiker has said in preseason interviews that defense has been a focus in practice. I guess we'll see.

RE: Season outlook
ESPN ranks you 270th out of 353, the Sagarin has you 241st, and KenPom ranks you 293rd. That's an average of 268th. The Sagarin has Northeastern 106th, which is worse than in the other rankings. Your rank of 241st in the Sagarin is the worst in the CAA. The CAA is the only conference to not have a team in the Top 100 or Bottom 100 of the Sagarin.

Williams, Isabell, and Mojica had 56.2 percent of your rebounds excluding team rebounds. To compare, Hofstra lost Rokas Gustys, who was third in Division I at 12.0, and their fourth and fifth leading rebounders, and that was 51.8 of their rebounds lost excluding team rebounds.

Dragon For Life typed 17-13, but he meant 17-14 when you count the W and L.

RE: Season outlook
Seemingly a pretty good showing in the exhibition against DII Clarion with a 99-65 win.

Hard to take away much from a game like that although it is nice to see after some of our showings against non-D1 schools. For comparison, last year's exhibition against DII West Chester, we won by 3.

One thing that stuck out from a negative aspect was that Tadas and Doles both fouled out in 12 minutes of action.

What does the starting lineup look like?

It was Lee, Harper, John, Demir, and Butler

Perry and Walton didn't suit up though.

RE: Season outlook
Here a link to the box score.
http://stats.statbroadcast.com/broadcast/?id=238602

I didn't see the game, but judging by the box and the way the game flowed, Wynter, Butler, and John all did well. Green shot the ball well but didn't get the minutes of some of the others which might indicate he is further down the pecking order. Coletrane got lots of minutes but didn't score. Both Green and Coletrane were playing with the three walk-ons for the last 4 minutes for so. Dole and Tadas had fouled out by then though so they weren't options.

Juric, Perry, and Walton didn't play.

RE: Season outlook
Yes sorry, I meant Austin not Rodney.

Definitely a nice showing. Not sure if our depth is depth or just numbers. Fouling out that quickly is really bad. Reaching in and not bodying up is just poor defense. But in games like this I would rather them practice many techniques and find what works before we truly start the season. Defense will be a problem. I agree we should be better shooting than last year, but I still do not think we will be a good shooting team. If we take smart shots and work the ball around with good movement, that could change in a big way. But I was not impressed last year with our ball movement. Losing Isabell should actually help in that regard since it should be less ISO basketball. Our opener against Eastern Michigan should help us figure out exactly what we may be looking at as that is an above average team we will be facing on the road.

I was very encouraged by those free throw numbers. Getting to the line is important. Making the shots is super important. Having another good free throw shooting team should help alleviate some of the pressure when shots are not falling.

i don't see any wins on the schedule. i'm just being honest.

we have a decent shot against bryn athyn. they got pasted by lancaster bible college to close the season last year. they shouldn't hang their heads because i saw lbc against messiah last year and they are legit. fans travel really well too. who would've thought they would send a whole student section to grantham, pa on a school night?

This is how ESPN rates our chances to win in the OOC. A little more optimistic than HiroshimaCarp but not by much.

LaSalle - 18%
Boston U - 57.1%
Bowling Green - 27%
Loyola - 54.5%

Pretty accurate in my opinion and mirrors up pretty well with where I stood. I took us to win the winnable ones mostly. It is a hard team to gauge without seeing them play yet. There seems to be potential, but also seems like them coming together and making strides could be difficult. Not sure I have had such a confused outlook on a season before due to so much unknown.
