Newsday wants the Yankees to give Harper and Machado $375 million for 12 years each and trade Stanton.

They already set the record for HR they don't need more HR hitters. They need contact hitters and SP!

I agree. I think if you give anybody 12 years fans will think of the end of the contract what they think about Ellsbury now. Ellsbury is on a 7 year contract for $153 million and has 2 years left. $153 million includes a $5 million buyout because the Yankees won't pay him $21 million after that. He didn't play in 2018, and his 9.8 WAR are under 2 per year for the Yankees. Trout and Betts had over 10 WAR this year. I don't know if I would offer Harper or Machado $250 million.

The offense doesn't need any kind of makeover IMO, they just need to change approach and become better situational hitters. Moving runners, Stealing bases, was all an afterthought. it was HR or bust, and that gets beat by better pitching 9 outta 10 times in the postseason. Here is what i think for the preseason, Re-sign Happ, go get Corbin or Kuechel, get a new Pitching coach(Larry is terrible), I wish they would fire BaBoone but i know that's not happening.

The Red Sox look unstoppable. I love and much prefer the NL, but I don't think Milwaukee or LA can beat Boston in a 7-game series.

My only hope is this is a Reverse of 2004 when the Cards were the best team all year and the Sux beat them in the WS.
GO DODGERS!

I've come to the unfortunate reality that it's probably happening, and it SUCKS! How Salty are Boston fans that they have to Chant "Yankees Suck"? thier team has been best all year, likely about to win WS and all they can think about is their daddy?

haha, Salty Boston fans!

I also realized last week in Mexico, we met a bunch of people from St Louis, those folks have an unhealthy hatred for the Cubs. I didn't realize that rivalry was that bitter.

The Cardinals organization and their fans, much like the Cubs and their fans, get this reputation for being full of class simply because they're in the Midwest. Not really true for either org. People who actually live out there will tell you Chicago and STL fans can be real scumbags.

The Cardinals stealing of scouting info from the Astros somewhat revealed the man behind the curtain for that organization, but its been like this for a while.

RE: 2016, 2017, and 2018 MLB Thread
I have a deep hatred for the Cardinals and their fans. My main gripe with StL is this idea that they're more knowledgeable than other fan bases and their self proclaimed title as "the best fans in baseball." What Cubs fans did to Steve Bartman should confirm that we're not perfect, but I think we gotten a bad wrap the last four years. Until 2015, Cubs fans were criticized for being too loyal. Now that they're winning, we're all supposedly bandwagon fans. For the most part, I think the biggest issue is the overexposure that comes with social media and the ability to find an idiot within any fan base. But, if you really want to hear the bad stories about Cubs' fans, talk to Cincy and Milwaukee fans...they hate Chicago as much as StL.

LaRussa was also always strangely close to players with PED issues. When he spoke about being unaware of PED issues it came off as genuine as Bill Self being unaware of the underbelly of college basketball.

You're probably too young to know this, but before the UNC-Duke rivalry in basketball, it was UNC-State. One of the two would be on TV playing someone else. And UNC or State fans would be cheering and holding up signs saying go to hell State or UNC. I'm sure some of the old guys my age on here can verify what I'm telling you. The rivalry back then was that serious.

I get it having grown up on the NY/Mass line, half my buddies were Sox, half were Yankees. I'd root for the taliban if they were playing the Sox. And, IMO(and I'm a pats &Celtics fan although admittedly, not much of an NBA fan now) Boston fans are some of the worst in sports. There are times i'm embarrassed to be a Pats fan. I'd honestly only put Philly as worse than them.

I'm not sure what qualifies as "old" on a college message board. I'm 37, and I remember that as a kid. It seemed like it was the early 90s when the UNC/Duke rivalry really blossomed into what it is today, but I do remember the old school bitter stuff between UNC/State as a small kid. I still dislike NC State. I hardly follow college football, but I get all happy inside when State loses -- even though UNC's football team is and usually always has been steamy garbage.

Just "times"???

I'm not a fan of any Boston sports. None of them. Zilch. Nooooooope.

Also, to bring this thread back to topic:

I called Boston in 5. Just saying. 07-coffee3

I've said it before, and I'll say it again, football in this state is pathetic. Carolina has been the worst the past two years, but no one has bragging rights.

Congrats to the Red Sox. A great team this year. They have a great young nucleus...I'm looking forward to the winter meetings. I expect the Cubs to be active this off season. Doubt they add any starters, but I think they'll make a splash in FA and I think there will be a significant trade as well...not enough room in the OF once they add Harper.
