That's a great idea. Iowa and UC both have big alumni bases in Chicago.

Now we just need to find another good OOC home game.

RE: 2019-2020 Hoops schedule
I doubt that it could happen, but an extension with UCLA for football/basketball would be appealing. The Bruins may want no part of it (given game results) but as a high profile national program they (and the rest of the Pac 12) certainly need more national TV games east of the Rockies.

What I don't understand is why UC isn't ever getting into the top tier holiday tournaments. What we're seeing are tourneys with maybe one or two second tier power conference teams along with mid and low majors. And these tourneys have little if any TV visibility. We were told during the old Big East years that it was a numbers game and once you got past UCONN, Louisville, Syracuse, WVU, etc., the top tournaments couldn't take a second team from the Big East. Well that's no longer the problem, so what is? Other AAC teams are getting invited so I don't blame the conference affiliation. I'm guessing the other six teams that have made eight or more consecutive NCAA Tournaments are getting far better holiday tournament invitations. How about a return trip to Maui for starters?

I went to the Maui Invitational. I think the tourney was pretty disappointed in our turnout. In all fairness, we were a late replacement for Louisville and our travelling fanbase was spending money on BCS Bowls.

It's been brought up that Maui is the reason why we don't get the good trips and I believe Mick himself mentioned that because we were a late replacement they didn't have time to sell it to our fans. Not to mention we were still relatively early in the rebuild and fan support was a major issue at that time. It definitely isn't anymore.

If it helps ill commit to going if we ever get invited back to Maui. Went there for the first time a couple years ago and it may be my favorite place in the world. If UC goes to Maui I'm going to Maui, period.

Well I certainly agree with you about Maui as a destination. Seems to me UC needs to do a better job of "selling" regarding our more recent history with bowl ticket sales/attendance and hopefully, a soon to be announced season sellout for Fifth-Third. The folks in Maui could only make that argument in the absence of a thoughtful presentation of facts from UC Athletics.

There's enough good tournaments to go around. Why can we not ******* get in one of them? There should be NO excuse other than our coach doesn't want to play in them.

No, **** the slate. Stop associating with all these mid-majors in preseason tournaments if you don't have to.

Oh, so we should be just like the P5s we so love to rail against. Got it.

Bball is different. And we also aren't P5.

And I guess we have a chance vs Baylor or Ole Miss this year....but is it too much to ask to be in a preseason tournament with other good basketball schools? Yeesh.

I don't know why I'm so upset about this trash tournament..I guess i'm just so ready to stop being irrelevant in college basketball.

Your point is well taken. Opinions differ here on Mick but it's fair to say our program has done well enough the past eight seasons to deserve better exposure in quality pre-conference tournaments--at least some years.

UC does seem to be getting better individual games pre-conference; UCLA and OSU come to mind. From what I understand, it was OSU"s new coach that broke down that barrier. Not sure the origin of the UCLA two game set but I'm guessing, like Iowa State, it was TV trying to build content.

Until the AAC becomes the league it could be with UCONN and Memphis regaining rankings and national respect, UC will need these games both for strength of schedule and to put sizzle in the season ticket package. This may be the best November/December schedule in our program's long history.

RE: 2019-2020 Hoops schedule
It's not ideal, but it's a solid tournament with some really good mid-majors. As usual, Cincy basically straddles the line with success pointing to high major and conference pointing to top mid-major. The BS major conferences continue to try to separate themselves my avoiding all of these teams, and now moving toward 20 game schedules. Until they are forced to do so, they are going to keep doing what they are doing, so the top mid-majors best choice is to play each other. Since they straddle that line, nothing wrong with playing top MMs when the opportunity presents itself.

UCONN is never going to be the UCONN of old while in the AAC. Never.

Memphis could have one or two good seasons. Coach will ball or get the team put on probation.

Ollie recruited well at Uconn and Dan Hurley is a really good coach with ties all across the northeast. It's hard to say they'll be back to a National Championship level, but Uconn is going to be good again over the next few years.
