We have used gimmicks to "sell out" our 20K stadium for a few years and did not sell out our home opener and we are complaining that we are only adding a couple thousand seats with our new stadium. "Better facilities" - this is debatable and probably not the case. Their arena will be new, but it will not be a better or bigger overall facility than the Constant Center/Mitchum Center. Their football stadium is nice (albeit weird looking) and will seat a little more people, but it will not be nicer than our new stadium. Other venues are either on par with each other or we get the edge such as our tennis center, etc.

We did have a rivalry with them in the early to mid 90's (I was there for the Caluko shot) and we are both state schools, but it's been so long since they were relevant in basketball that a generation has passed and so has the rivalry (they probably look at it more as a rivalry than we do). I'm certainly not saying that I don't love beating them and it would hurt if we lose (kind of my own personal rivalry), but I don't think students see it as a super big rivalry.

This JMU talk got me curious so I took a glance at their boards. The thread titled "JMU to AAC" is both entertaining and delusional. They are going to have a lot of disappointed fans, if they think they're going to AAC anytime soon.

What do our students see as a big rivalry? Do any of them give enough of a eff to form an opinion?

In Basketball, ODU and JMU have about as much of a rivalry as a hammer has with a nail.

You could say the same about VT vs UVA, but I'd still call that a rivalry too.
