I missed this game and I'm kinda not upset about not being there....and that isn't a good thing. Something has got to change.

Their OL BLEW us off the ball and owned us. Our supposed experienced and talented DL got manhandled. This loss has nothing to do with coaching. It is all about talent and recruiting.

If I had to choose between $1 million to improve the stadium or to buy out BW it would be a very hard choice. I honestly feel bad for the state of the program. Had a couple folks say they weren’t getting season tix next year and some bowing out of odaf too. This team looks a lot like Woods last football program before ODU. Hmmmmm

Was it that bad? Man I'm glad went to the races at Langley Speedway on a company function.

I heard prior to the game tonight [third or fourth-hand] that Hendricks' career was over. Can anyone confirm?

Also Tyson on the DL is allegedly banged up now.

Whoever asked, defensive player, not offensive.

Our experienced DL is banged up quite a bit right now.

Fox-Surgery, seeking medical redshirt
Tyson-Playing injured, knee
Meiser-Playing injured, shoulder

On the other side of the line:
Hendricks-Done, knee

This week's depth chart showed us very thin at the OT spot (both sides) with 5 guys listed at center. It might just be me, but all of the guys playing OL should be knowledgeable enough to be able to play stop-gap across the line in case of injuries.

On the game itself, man turn the corner already! Y'all have been in all these losses late. I feel like we are 3-5 plays from pulling it off, but then one of those 3-5 plays happens...then again if we're going to play predictable football, then we deserve the Ls.

A 5 Page game thread for our nearest conference rival really says it all about CUSA football and the current state of odu football.

We are NOT on an upward trajectory in any way shape or form.

I love wilder as a person, but as a football coach, he is totally overmatched.

After next week's loss, we can see what kind of freshmen we have. They better be world beaters or next year won't be any better.

Good point .....I didn't expect much this year because I knew our OL, QB, and DB were marginal at best. Next year...will be MUCH worse.

I can certainly understand thinking this, but I'm going to hold out a little hope.
At a minimum we'll have a new Defensive Coordinator.

We'll see how our freshman look from here on out this season and we look to have a pretty decent incoming class next year.

Maybe it'll be a case of addition by subtraction. Many senior linemen and D backs graduating, hopefully they'll be replaced by potentially better freshmen.

I was surprised to see there was no real replacement for Garner? Carter had to change positions from safety to linebacker. You telling me there is no linebacker depth? Wonder why some of the back ups didn't play rather than move kids to different positions?

When Wilder addressed that question after the game he said players at this leave need the ability to play multiple positions.

Wilder would make a great politician. If that's the case then we only need half as many scholarships.

Agreed. Surprised how little was posted in the 4th quarter when it was still a game.

Carter is essentially the 3rd LB/3rd safety. Hes the same size as our linebackers and typcially plays underneath. With Branch/Wilder/Garner injured, it wasnt too surprising.

Feiw, it looked like Richardson played well. Hall and Boykin both lined up 1v1 on Brady and did an adequate job. Knight looked good running the ball. Our freshman are getting some valuable time and showing glimpses of promise.

That is mostly what Im looking at for the rest of the year. We are super close at times and just cant get over the hump this year. I think FIu, ECU, Charlotte, FAU, and Marshall were all 1 score games in the late 3/4th quarter. Defense then gives up a big play and we cant answer.

The 2 ares that we most need to be concerned with next year are DL and WR so Im hoping guys work their way in those spots late. Haynes/Valle, Fitz/Mayo(injured?). Hendricks made a tough catch.

This actually a valid statement. It's the reason you're seeing skill guys listed as 'athlete's more often.

RE: Game 7: Marshall at ODU
Curious game on offense.
Will Knight certainly was a bright spot, 11 carries for 70 yards @ 6.4 yards per carry
In fact, our rushing game as whole was pretty good. Removing the sacks from the equation, our running backs ran 26 times for 122 yards for a very acceptable 4.7 yards per carry.
Our passing, while not great, was also acceptable. LaRussa went 321/54 for 296 yards (57%). Duhart was almost a non factor and a lot of the passes were short dumps because BL didn't have much time at all. However he spread it out and compensated,
Based on just the numbers, 402 total offensive yards, one would have expected more points.

In a nightmarish flashback to Liberty, it appeared that our defense just quit after the third quarter.
Time Of Possession was almost identical. The Herd got one more turnover. The defense should not have been gassed.

Bottom line
offense:
We actually ran against a very good rushing defense. Pass protection needs to improve.

defense:
Where to start. DL not very deep and not the same w/o Miles Fox.
We cannot stop the run, we cannot pressure opposing quarterbacks, we cannot tackle in the open field. We are either too slow, or poorly coached in the secondary.

RE: Game 7: Marshall at ODU
I noticed Keion White and Donta Anthony making some catches across the middle. Anthony is absolutely huge and could become a real match up nightmare. Hope to see us make more use out of both of them. White especially played with passion. I thought he got T'ed up once and saw the coach in his face. Kinda liked seeing the passion.
