Players seem to have responded ok, but the fans probably have a little MAC fatigue right now when facing not only the remainder of a mediocre MAC schedule this year on top of the typical weekday Maction grind. It is just too much for fans to take in anymore I am afraid. Plus we have seen all this before, winning the MAC championship usually means you get the worst bowl game. It is hard to generate artificial excitement without real post-season meaning. Don't get me wrong, I will be ecstatic if NIU can win the MAC, but at the same time I can understand it not motivating fans much. Maybe beating BYU would restore some excitement and interest. The game that I think Huskie fans will be sore from for awhile is that Utah game. Defense played way way way past the level that a W should have been the result. Huskies needed to win that game to claim a sense of relevancy this year. Beatable P5 team on your turf with a championship like defense, you HAVE to win that game.
Utah is a very very good team. You can make the argument they are the best team we faced. They just crushed Stanford at Stanford, have a top 20 defense in FBS and were favored to beat us by 10 (in fact I recall you saying we would lose by more) . I get it, it was home but not one expected to win. As opposed to it being disappointing underachievement, I see it as a great testament to our team, the fact we kept it that close.
True, but once again the conservative play calling came back to haunt NIU. So many games against great teams NIU should have won including two games vs BC, #1 Ohio State, and the Utah Game. All those games NIU wins with a competent coach.

Don't need to fire him, just let his contract run out and not renew him.

I thought it’s pretty obvious that people’s concern for Carey is his lack of comference titles (1 in 5 years) and postseason success (0 for 5), no one denies he can win games in October.
It’s a tad early for a victory lap. These wins are meaningless if he ends the season shi*ting the bed again. I figure you’ll disappear again around that time.

1 conference title in 5 years is a lack of conference titles?

He's the master of beating one and two-win teams but if that's all we ever want to achieve we can hire any coach to do that. Time to win in the postseason and stop getting destroyed.

I covered it extensively over here.

Does anyone remember when winning games we were favored in was par for the course and not a giant “LOL” spectacle? It just goes to show how far the program has fallen. 4-3! Woooo!!!!

It’s gotten to the point that a come from behind win against Ohio is the time to claim you were right?! My have the mighty fallen. Lulz. Or whatever dumb term you are using these days.

I’ll give him a little more credit than that. Ohio is a solid team. Huskies fans should be happy at the moment but cautiously happy. The same people laughing like morons every October are awfully quiet by December.

Exactly. I guess winning games we’re supposed to win is cause for celebration these days.
It’s cringe-worthy.

This was a confidence building win vs Ohio but....
+100
Beat up the **** MAC teams with losing records then get demolished in a bowl game. We had to get 2 td in the 4th to beat an Ohio team that has given up 500 yards a game...
Beat a team with a winning record before we pump our chests.

We have 10 lives. Could’ve lost easily against EMU and Ohio. They don’t make it easy on our fans. Wish our coaches would instill more sense of urgency in more drives so we could increase the lead instead of pizzing it away then getting our rear in gear...

Change “EMU and Ohio” to “Miami and BG” and this same post has shown up on our board, haha.
In a presser a couple weeks ago, Coach Lester was complimenting NIU in the way they find ways to win, especially later in the season when other teams fade in games. I’ll try to find the exact quote.
