Come on man!!!! Dickens can play....I don't know where this notion that he is raw and over rated.... Dickens is REAL good....with him we can win CUSA...without him..no way..5 fouls 1 rebound and a put back,,,every now and then..WTF...you obviously have not seen him play.
Dickens is very talented. Hes also raw. Hes only overrated if you claim hes worth 4 wins. He would have to be like the best player in conference for that to be true.
Yes. But, cart before the horse. Let's not talk about this season till we hear word....at least I'm not since I'm highly skeptical that his waiver will be approved. I just don't see a scenario within the NCAA guidelines (as if they have any that aren't hazy) that will allow him to compete this year.

Apologies if I've missed it but what's the argument for allowing Dickens to bypass the sitout year? I presume it's more compelling for the NCAA to consider than "we really really want to use him this season."

I don't claim to be 100% accurate on the above subject but I think the argument is that since he was injured early in his freshman year and only saw action in something like 3 games, Providence was trying to declare last season as a redshirt season. If that were the case and he was transferring then ODU is asking for permission for him to play since he has already sat out a season.

Agreed. And at the very least, since he sat out the entirety of the second semester, he should be eligible to play come January.

Yes, Providence has made that claim. Problem with this is that Providence will need to provide the appropriate documentation to help ODU/Dickens in getting this hardship. Also, in order to even be considered, Providence will have to demonstrate that he was incapacitated/not cleared for the entire season. Now let's say Providence is ok in helping a player who's no longer on their roster, and they provide all the materials; best case scenario, NCAA comes back and states that he still has 4 years of eligibility to play. However, in that case he still needs to sit out the year due to transferring institutions.
I hope I'm wrong, and I would love to post on this thread at some point to that fact, but I just don't see it happening.

Providence has been awesome in helping with this matter. I believe he will get the redshirt, with 4 years remaining, but I have heard that his appeal for playing this year "isn't looking good". The first part of my post is my opinion, the second is from a very reliable person.

That's good to hear regarding Providence. And your second portion is consistent to what I'm hearing as well.

I guess its good that we'll still have him for 4 years. We're going to be mostly rebuilding after this year anyway. I would have liked to have a better chance to get to the NCAA's this year though with Caver and BJ. Assuming of course that he'd give us that better chance.

I have a hard time believing that any of our starters isn't worth 4 wins in a year. MAYBE we have enough quality depth at SG and SF to not give up four games, but I doubt it. We need Dickens this year if we're hoping for Caver and Stith to reach their potential. Both guys deserve to have a fully stocked roster for their last year.

Is there still no resolution on the Dickens' appeal? If that's the case the NCAA just continues to prove how much of a pathetic joke it is. You can't convince me that if this was UNC, Kentucky, Michigan etc. that they wouldn't have had an answer on this issue months ago. How long could it possibly take to review a case like this? If it's a case of manpower, take some of the hundreds of millions of dollars you earn off of college athletes and hire a few more people.

We had some issues that had to get resolved before the appeal could be filed.

Thanks for the info. Still, if we filed before the middle of September i can't see why it should take long to review a case. This isn't a murder investigation.

I don't feel that the NCAA will come back with a response prior to our first game. They are the epitome of accuracy and efficiency!

Good grief...my apologies to the NCAA on this one. Although they are still a bunch of money grubbing, power conference loving hypocrites.

Monarch media did an interview this weekend with Jeff Jones. I thought he said it is now all in the NCAA’s hands.
