Per DC Eddie Carifio:
Two deeps show Red-Shirt FR Erik Abrell from Aurora Christian as this weeks 1st string Long Snapper.
Maybe this will give Hayden a chance to get things figured out. Carey has been a huge backer of Hayden. Quoted often as saying he has a great chance to play on "Sundays".
Eddie also notes that Smalls not on 2-deep.

Considering Sak's first game was a mistake free effort at Ohio St. he hasn't matched that effort this season.

Carey on the offense:
"We haven't been as explosive as we need to be, and we have explosive players. It's a combination of all that – coaching, play-calling, execution, all of it."

RC said he was "day to day". He's now "week to week".

That I can appreciate. I tell everyone at my job I would much rather have someone own up to something than beat around the bush.

Exactly. I just don't recall Rod EVER pointing to "coaching/play-calling" when things weren't going well.

RE: New Long Snapper
Rod or someone on the staff finally woke up and realized that good things would happen if they fed Harbison. Problem is it was obvious sometime last year and it took several games this year before they realized it. Lately we have been blessed with outstanding defensive coaches and we have suffered with terrible offensive coaches.

Good for Rod to stand up and make a statement. It would be great to see the old NIU hurry-run run and gun offense.
I think CHilders is capable of better than he has shown. He's a long pass or two from being a decent QB.

Sometimes head coaches can be a little handsoff with the play calling and allowing their coordinators too much freedom for play calling. Hopefully that’s been the case and they fix this problem fast. Still doesn’t explain why he’s so committed to Childers at QB. Better than nothing I guess.

I think Childers will succeed if he is allowed to succeed. Its no surprise NIU finally moved the ball when they HAD to have a score. That's always been my biggest frustration with Carey, offensive possessions are not treated as valuable in themselves. Their only value to Carey is not to turn the ball over. Childers made plays when he had to in overtime, if you gave this kid a little rope and let him learn and make mistakes, it would be jaw dropping on the extent of improvement. Hopefully this season will show Carey , offense cannot be neglected completely.

This comment drives me insane. I cannot recall a player given more rope than Carey has given to Childers. He has done nothing but completely back Childers even when he has struggled (missing wide open receivers, holding on to the ball too long). Carey has put him in the ideal situation to develop. He has been nothing but absolutely committed to Childers development. Childers cannot have asked for a better situation, from the timing of when he took over the starting role till now. Why is this so difficult for you to understand?

Well I think there's a difference between playing a guy and letting him run. I think that's what MD is getting at.

Rodney Hall is one, but they have given him the ball about 1 time the entire year.

Harbs, DJ Brown, and Wesley have made big plays this year. Tears has made big plays last year but hasn't this year. Nettles certainly seems capable and Robinson has potential. I think there are enough play makers if the QB could make plays consistently...

Everything I've seen from Nettles seems like he is very explosive.

Have to agree with you on this one. Can't make plays if they don't have the ball, especially in space.

Saw a lot of Sak in there today. He did his job as far as I could tell.
